It's starting to scare people that Kyle might actually be THAT great.

As ost said, nobody doubts Kyle's skill as a great stock car driver. As for proving himself as one of the greatest or "THAT great", I don't think continuing to dominate a series with far less competition than the Cup series is really going to build up his legacy. It does more to develop an image of selfishness for easy wins and stat boosting IMO. If Kyle really thinks going for the record of greatest Xfinity driver after you've already succeeded in Cup is getting anyone's respect he really has his head up his ass.

When I saw this piece of garbage story on NASCAR on Fox's Facebook, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of comments in favor of Kyle and against Petty.

^^^ What makes that a piece of garbage article is the fact that the media is even acknowledging the idiot fans for thinking Kyle's record will come anywhere close to the King's record.

Say what you will about his demeanor, but Kyle Busch is the most incredible talent to hit the sport in a very long time. Still, the only wins of his that matter are his Cup wins, and anyone who thinks him winning in a Lambo while everyone else with less experience is driving a Chevette is in any way meaningful should be stabbed in the face with a soldering iron.

Settle down there, Clem.

To stir the pot a bit...how is Kyle racing Busch and Truck series races and winning, any different than Petty beating up on a bunch of nobodys at East Bumfuckville Speedway in like 1966 where he got counted for a win?

Until NASCAR changes it's policy, which should be X amount of races allowed in the lower tiers, it is what it is. Watch or don't. I choose not to at this point with few exceptions. On to Bristol.

Now that's a waste of a perfectly good soldering iron.

I just checked 1966, and holyshit there was a lot of 'villes.

Anyway, the guys Petty and Pearson beat over and over again at those little tracks were the best of the rest - the Cup series always has had that group of drivers that could compete (and they'd compete at more than just the 'villes), but never did close the deal all that much. There's always been a group of competitors that could challenge, finish in the Top 10 or whatever.

In any case, I find it pretty hard to get upset about him actually winning Busch and Truck races, because like Chris says it's not like he's breaking any rules. I'm doing my part and not watching. *shrugs*

to compare different eras of motorsport is quite complicated

but I still believe that buschwackers can race in lower tiers, if they restrict the power and strategies like a performance ballast to increase challenge to hot shot racers and make it more competitive for the Xfinity habitues

Nah you can't have them be in cars with artificially restricted power or heavier weight or whatever cos then you'll get the people that when they finish second or whatever be like WELL YEAH BUT THATS WITH EVERYTHIG RESTRICTED HE WOULDA SMOKED EM IF IT WAS ALL EQUAL etc

I actually typed a huge paragraph about that but then deleted it from my post. Petty won 40 some races with 20 cars or less starting. He won races that only 5 cars finished the race. He won races where it was RICHARD PETTY vs local guys wanting to compete with the NASCAR star on a Wed night and some dirt track in the middle of nowhere. But that counts as a cup win towards his total of 200. Some of Kyle's busch and truck wins would rank higher than some of Petty's. Let's also not forget he was the factory star with the best one off parts for a long time. Not to mention tech inspection was nowhere then like it is now. If anything Kyle Busch is just as good of a racer if not better than Richard Petty. The only thing Petty has going for him is he did it first, and in a time that likely nobody in this forum lived to ever see or understand. (His final 5 or so wins in the 80s not included in that, because when the competition got tough and the fields got tight, Richard was nowhere to be seen.)

The 10 races in a row? Well if you count they were on wednesday, friday, saturday, next tuesday, etc.. Kyle is on a 4 race win streak, he could win 10 in a row and beat the record. 27 in a season? Hasn't he already done that when you add in BGN, Cup, and Trucks? Richard won 27 when there were over 60 available to win.

They were nice enough not to mention his 13 wins in a modern era record, since it was tied by Jeff Gordon, and GASP nobody can EVER match THE KING!

I think Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth, etc don't get as much credit for as good as they really are/were.

If you really want to debate the challenge of racing in the 60's vs the challenge of racing now, we're gonna be here a loooooooong time. Petty raced at a time when there wasn't as much competition, but he also raced at a time when there was no money in the sport, you had to be as good a mechanic as you were a driver and there was a lot more risk (not just safety but financial) in putting everything you had towards a race at east bumfuckville speedway.

This is all court of public opinion anyway so stat comparisons get a little hazy. I'd say the reason more people would rate Petty above Busch is he proved he could maintain that level of success for longer (which Busch needs more time to do) and he's got a lot more significant victories to balance out the easy ones - the same reasons Mark Martin doesn't get as much flack for all his running in Busch.

Comparing eras is silly.

Also, it has no relevance to the topic we were discussing - how much the Xfinity Series sucks and why it sucks.
