He's won the first race of a series' season in 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012. But Bahrain isn't the first round. Run ended.

Yeah, because Finnish optimism doesn't excist.

Good to see Vandoorne getting a shot, but it really makes me wonder if Alonso's physics are not good for big crashes. I mean, compared to other race drivers he seems to hurt himself more than some. 46 G is a lot though, but Kimi did suffer 47 G in his Silverstone 2014 crash and had no problem to race in the next event. I know the impact angle is different in these two accidents and Alonso is not at least officially out because of concussion, but for rib injuries. 2015 testing accident was "only" 30G and he was again replaced another driver. In Abu Dhabi 2013, Alonso suffered 25 G impact. In Brazil 2003 he was visibly shaken after the accident. I've been in a +40 G crash myself and I know by the fact that it doesn't go away just like that. But for some race drivers it doesn't seem to be that harmful.

Sainz Sochi 2015 practice crash was also 46 G.
http://www.topgear.com/car-news/crash/f1-just-how-big-was-sainzs-46g-sochi-crash-we-do-maths

Jeff Gordon 2006 Pocono crash was 64 G.

Well it's not just how many G's it is. Where the forces go counts too, how the crash structures work and all that. Alonso's just been unlucky. The 2015 test crash it didn't crumple, the suspension held up and the energy went elsewhere. Despite all the safety that has emerged, you still can get banged around a lot.

I'm aware of that and I know how it goes. But dynamics in a racing car crashes are not that different as the drivers are strapped to their cars. It's not like your shoulder could suffer 50 G impact but your head would only have to deal with 5 G. If the car and drivers ear sensor go over 30 G, it is a big hit that effects on both of the car and the driver significantly.

Well, those Gs are peaks on extremely short periods of milliseconds. Suppose your shoulder is stopped dead, along with the cockpit that recorded 50G during 1ms. If your head takes only 10ms to stretch the HANS, stretch your neck, then stop, it means the head will have exactly 10 times less force on it, so 5G.
If you've ever played around with acceleration sensors you'll realize how those readings have a lot of noise to them and can get exotic at least, depending on what sampling you choose and how you decide to average, etc...

What was your 40G crash?

Vandoorne has a good record at Bahrain, so the track suits him. Now only needs to get used to the car and hope for some crazy race with lots of safety cars to get him into the points.

One of the McLarens will give him his receipt instead.

Well, it could be Button...

-----------------------

Stoffel will use #47, which will please at least one member here.

nah, Button's main target is Perez, but it could also cause a SC

Whomever thinks Vandoorne will even get close to Button is delusional. I want him to succeed, but this F1 is insanely different from even Hamilton's debut. The best he can do is not suck. I wish him well, Button is only there for the fun, which is puzzling for me. I thought Ron only wanted professionals. Magnussen and Vandoorne would have been sweet for the future.

That actually makes a lot of sense in terms of math and physics. But isn't the F1 using ear plug sensor data to be sure that if the crash is bad for the driver?

Flipped a snowmobile back in early 00's at 80 km/h. Landed softly. On a boulder. Head first. Took me few months to go up or down from the bed without losing the sense of balance and blacking out in the process. Every time. Other than that I was OK. Well except for my shoulder that was rather banged up too. I couldn't write for few weeks and even today my shoulder is aching a bit when I stress it, like when I'm riding a snowmobile. Other than that I was OK.

Some of the older members might not only remember the incident, but even might have the video of it. Good story. Other than that I was OK.

Wow, spectacular.

I had missed your point about ear sensors, I didnt know about that feature but it would be a very good idea indeed.
