My thoughts are that the faster the cars can corner the less chance their is of overtaking as the cars are in the corners for less amount of time, the lines you can take through a corner reduce, plus the human mind can only react and process so much in a small amount of time.

If F1 cars cornered as comparatively slowly as a MotoGP bike or touring car then you would see much more passing due to the opposite of the points I made above. Gary Anderson also once made a good point disagreeing with Aero as being the "killer" of passing galore, as in a wet race, mechanical grip is less but aero remains the same (relative to the speed they do), but you see more passing, maybe they need to massively reduce mechanical grip as well as aero performance? But then we're back to GP2 cars being faster?

I think the current cars are quite hard to drive at the limit. They still have a lot of power. It's fairly common to see drivers making mistakes in qualifying, or when the track is damp. The problem is that no one is on the limit during the races. It's all about fuel saving modes and turning down the engine to make sure it will last another race.

This is the key point, as well as the stupid egoism. Just think back to the beginning of 2013 where we had 6 different winners in the first 6 GPs (or something along those lines). That was absolutely amazing but it was brought to an end by the shit-flinging of the teams, because the tyres rendered their race simulation programs useless. So anything that might introduce a little bit of diversity (and therefore interesting races) will be stopped in its tracks immediately. F1 has become an engineering exercise where the only real battles have become among the teammates.

The same phenomenon ruined Indycar too. 2012 was a really good season, the first with the DW12 but then the tyre falloff got lesser and lesser and more and more rules to help the top teams with the money, like the aero kits.

Hence the comment he was tired after 60 laps and now easily can do 160.

Well, he might be able to but his engine can't.

Hopefully the latter, but perhaps Felipe will become a shareholder in the team and / or part of the team's management.

Massa to retire at the end of the year

-

not shocked to say the least, hope he can get it a top 5 finish before the season is over (would say podium but that's pretty doubtful honestly)

Is Vandoorne a contracted McLaren driver who's had his entire junior career funded by the Woking based team?

Massa drove like a bag of wank after he list the 2008 title. It was for his competitive moaning the last years that anybody still knew he was around. Watch a video of him spinning around Silverstone clueless and you know we are better of.

He beat Schumi a couple of times and Kimi at least in 2008. After "Fernando is faster than you" he's been a shadow of his former self and been involved in many incidents, particularly in Monaco, Silverstone and Canada.

Austrian Pole was maybe the last high point of his career, unless something extraordinary happens in the remaining races.

Good riddance, he has been a waste of space in f1 for the last few years. And the same can be say this year for Gutierrez, Palmer, Nasr and Erickson.

I would bet it is Sergio Perez at Williams for 2017.
