When I read that Harvick had won, my response was basically: "Yeah, that sounds about right".

I'm surprised it wasn't Kyle Busch though. I thought he had a better story line.

Oh well.

He'll have his moment next round.

Could someone fill me in on who are Nascar's favorite drivers/teams and who aren't, because I really have no idea. I thought Nascar didn't like SHR (other than Danica) and loved Jimmie Johnson and HMS? Jimmie didn't make the next round. Is he not a Nascar fav anymore? Has Harvick supplanted him somehow? Did Nascar give Jamie a double-secret ultimatum not to pass Junior, because he was about this close to not making the next round, either.

It's all manufactured bullshit, and we're all suckers for still believing in this stupid point system and series.

A point of clarification: I'm pretty sure nobody here believes in this points system.

I have hated the playoff system since day 1 along with the older Chase formats (at least the older systems were somewhat tolerable I guess).

If it was me, the Chase/playoff system would just be a big money bonus (i.e. Winston Million/No Bull 5/Dash 4 Cash) or a separate championship. That way you have a normal season championship counting all the points races and a playoff winner. And NASCAR could basically keep the current marketing platform as well for the series.

I've never liked the artificial 'Chase' crap, but I would take it in exchange for some races that are actually worth watching. I said I wouldn't bother watching any more until Dega/Martinsville, yet I decided to give this another try because Dover used to be cool back in the day. What a waste of time.

The most frustrating thing to me is that nascar and 95% of the journalists do nothing but praise how much drama it adds. I think Gluck even tweeted yesterday something along the lines of, without the chase yesterday's race would've sucked.

EXACTLY!!! THAT'S THE PROBLEM!!!! They are using the artificial drama to hide the fact the racing is still terrible. NASCAR makes changes to the chase literally every year to increase the drama aka hide how bad the racing is. Fix the racing, not the chase. I HATE when journalists sell out to promote the series no matter what because it means more people will read their articles.

Yesterday's race sucked, regardless of the implications. Pretty much from the green flag, you knew Harvick had it in the bag, unless he had some random ass failure like Johnson.. cause seriously, 15th to the lead in what, 25 laps?

Dover IS cool.

Its High downforce packages that suck.

I've always liked him.

But in the context of the Chase IDGAF.

nascar journalists can't criticize the sport, otherwise they get secret fines. like when the COT first came out, they praised it. it wasn't until nascar moved onto the next car, that they were able to lift the blankets off their head and say 'so it is okay now to say how shitty the COT actually was?'

Is Matt weaver the only one that dares to call out the sport from time to time? That Monte guy does as well but he doesn't have a hard card anymore so he has nothing to lose.

He's the senior writer for AutoRacing1.com. I'm unsure about his status with NASCAR (ie, his media hard card), tho...

You all have me convinced: Harvick's win was totally an anomaly. It's not like he was dominating the points before the chase or anything. Not like he has led the most laps, had the most poles, had the most top 2's, top 5's, top 10's this year, nor been in a position to win the previous 2 weeks. Manufactured bullshit, you all were right. I'm withdrawing my statement.
