IMO this is a really shitty track for IndyCar racing, so it's even more disappointing that it's hosting the finale. If they were to just ditch that godawful chicane it would be a major improvement, but it's still a dismal circuit for racing in these cars.

Yeah, should have kept it at Fontana.

You can add "1970: Dan Gurney" to previous winners.

(can't really sleep right now, so better looking up useless facts)

Finale should have been at Pocono. Winning a 500 miles race deserves double points, not a standard road course race.

Sonoma isn't a great track, neither is Laguna (for racing).

finish 2nd or better without bonus points, 3rd or better if he gets bonus points.

Rahal and Montoya would tie if Montoya finished 3rd (without bonus points) and Rahal won the race and got all 4 bonus points. Rahal would win the championship in that outcome as he would have more wins.

Dixon would need Montoya to finish 7th (without bonus points) or worse and Rahal to finish 2nd or worse if he won the race.

Power would need Montoya to finish worse than 13th (or 11th/12th without bonus points) if he won the race. That would also need Rahal to finish 3rd or worse (with up to 2 bonus points) and Dixon to finish 2nd or worse.

Castroneves and Newgarden would need Montoya to basically finish last without bonus points.

After Barber, anything can be much better with this great new aero-pack. But I really agree with that chicane.

Fully expect to see JPM win his second Open Wheel title in the shadow of tragedy.

Will watch but even without the cloud of grief and the good record of the quality of indycar racing this season, I don't expect this track to put on a decent race.

I just hope its safe and mildly eventful. That'll do Indycar, that'll do.

Sonoma is awesome. IndyCar just runs a lame layout.

But what is it with Indycar and tragic season ends ? (2011 and 1999 as codename mentioned)

I had just booked my tickets to this race last week, after Rahal closed in on points and Wilson finished 2nd...
I definitely didn't expect to have another tragedy in between.
I guess i'll still go and expect a nice tribute to Justin before and after the race, and a decent show and battle for the championship.

I'd definitely go, it's always therapeutic to be around people in the same state as you and at Sonoma I imagine there's going to be a fair few thousand fans who will be willing to talk about Justin and remember him, let alone the pre and post race tributes that will surely take place.

My non-motorsport friends have been wondering why I've been down today, but when I told them they didn't really understand.
Football (soccer) or other sports fans don't quite get what we race fans have to go through for the love of our sport sometimes.
Their heros retire to plushy management or media jobs. Some of ours don't.

Go to the race, remember Justin and share stories about him with fellow fans, it's probably the main reason I started the Tribute thread in the first place to get that kind of atmosphere going on here.

I'm kinda like in between of cheering for Montoya doing the real life version of Rocky Balboa and Graham Rahal winning it for his passed away team mate in Rocky IV style.

There's no easy way out.

Indycar will be doing a tribute by having Marco drive Justins car and with a few others, drive across the Golden Gate Bridge. Looks like today at 1. Wish i could call in sick and head out there, only a 30min drive tops for me lol

Nice! :flag:

This is really touching (and awesome). I never say that about anything.
