Also to note on this weekend, currently in the weather forecast there is a slight chance of rain as well (Saturday primarily with a 50% chance). Remember that Goodyear is bringing rain tires for the Cup cars as well this year too. Granted it is still too early to say. But it could be a major factor in this weekend's race if it does rain

Yeah saw the Random thread after this and made the connection. Does this mean Sadler has raced for JRM before? (#88?)

One of the best highlights of the Glen in recent years was the shirtless drunk guy jumping onto the track under the red flag to try and get Kenseth to autograph his hat. Fuckin balls.

I can't believe Kenseth just brushed him off, that was like half his fan base. Plus, the dude just risked his freedom so he could meet YOU. Not one of the other 42 drivers. YOU.

So lame.

Cause you totally know the guy personally, right?

Anyway, if I recall correctly, they sent the guy some stuff afterwards.

Found it:

Quote:
Kenseth will reach out to fan who tried to get on-track autograph at Watkins Glen
By Greg Engle, Editor, Cup Scene Daily

Matt Kenseth feels bad.

Two days after a fan jumped over a fence during a red flag period at Watkins Glen in an attempt to get an autograph from Kenseth, who happened to be sitting in his No. 17 Ford at the time, Kenseth said Tuesday that perhaps he should have complied.

"Once it was all over, I was thinking that I should have at least signed that guy’s hat since he got in all that trouble,’’ Kenseth said. "I don’t know if that would have been the right thing to do with all the kids and fans watching. It was just one of those things where are you are caught off-guard so bad that you are not really sure what to do."

Brett Hilbert, of Kenmore New York was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies and charged with reckless endangerment and criminal trespass. He was released from jail Sunday night after posting bail and faces one year in jail if convicted on the endangerment charge.

In the end, according to Kenseth, he actually found a silver lining to the incident.

"I don’t think of myself as really one of the stars of the sport,’’ Kenseth said. "All the superstars of NASCAR were lined up on the track during that red flag, and the guy ran over to my car. That was a neat compliment.

Kenseth also said he might try and reach out to the Hilbert.

"I’m going to find the guy’s information and arrange to send him a little care package. I would feel bad if he got in a lot of trouble.’’

This could be fun after the switch.

Quote:
Damp condition starts

According to the NASCAR Rulebook section 10.13.3, for race starts under “damp” conditions (when only portions of the track are wet), once the course has been deemed “damp” by the series director and after the pace lap, the cars (.c) “will return to their assigned pit stall and may elect, at the team’s discretion, to install the rain tires and/or front windshield wiper(s). The rear flashing light must be activated for the Race under “damp” conditions.

"No other adjustments or refueling will be permitted at this time. The vehicles will then re-enter the race track in their original starting position behind the caution vehicle for the remaining pace laps. Normal starting procedures will be utilized to start the Race.

“(.d) If a team(s) elects not to change tires on the designated “damp” conditions pit stop, but chooses to pit on the remaining pace lap(s), the team will forgo their original starting position and start at the rear of the field in the order they re-entered the race track from pit road.

“(.e) Once the Race is started under “damp” weather conditions the crew chief is solely responsible for the decision of when to change/utilize "dry" or "wet" condition equipment throughout the Race.”

If it starts as damp.

If it starts dry and rain begins they'll go red to get everyone to change

I say fuck it, let them race a Cup race finally in the rain. The good drivers will still rise to the top. We saw in 2012 what a finish looks like with the cars slipping all over.

Nascar does this every year. They talk about potentially running a points-paying Cup race in the rain, but come race day, they backpedal faster than a dyslexic Lance Armstrong. I'll believe it when I see it.
