Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

34 cars are making 4 laps by themselves for qualifying... then the boost drops for the race. Leave it alone, let them do their thing. Address it Monday. Why does the series need to police the teams? You don't want to turn your driver into confetti on the catch fence, put more wing in it.

At this rate, they're not even going to get half the cars to do a 4-lap run before the track is washed out for today.

Who's doing the panicking? Is it the drivers? teams? or the organisers perceiving some massive problem that may potentially not be there.

The wind has been quiet high there judging by the flags this week, they were mostly pointing towards the flag stand while I was watching, anybody actually considered that might have contributed to it?

There goes the fast 9 shootout too. Just everyone making their best attempt. I'm fine with that.

I'm no scientist; but when a wing that's designed to produce downforce as it's going forward is spun around 180 degrees...isn't it going to produce the polar opposite...lift?

We saw this when the wing was on the COT in Cup.

You're correct. But the lift will be relatively small as the cars are set with very little downforce.

If they want to avoid the airbournes seen, they better do what NASCAR came up with(flaps, appropriately placed, activated when the car is going backwards)

I think its bs. It's like an impound race now. You basically have to pick your race setup today.

This is epic clusterfuck. Imagine if this happened during the 100th edition? But that's the price for doing ZERO oval testing before Indy and demanding record speeds. The amateur hour at it's finest.

http://www.racer.com/indycar/item/11686 ... ort-sunday

"10:36 ET: Speaking with multiple sources on Gasoline Alley, the following appears to be the direction IndyCar will take its technical specifications for the rest of the event. The series has not made an official statement on the changes, nor have they updated the loyal fans as to what's going on or the reason for the rpolonged red flag:

Engines will return to their low-boost settings, which reduces something in the region of 40-50hp and lowers lap speeds below 230mph.
All teams--from Chevy and Honda--will be required to race in the aerodynamic trim they use in qualifying. This effectively forces teams to abandon low-drag qualifying setups.
Teams are allowed to adjust their wing angles as desired.
Wing wickers are also open.

11:25 ET: We currently have no timeline from the series on when cars will begin practicing or qualifying. Honda teams have been notified of the changes listed at 10:36.

11:28 ET: A second team owners/team managers meeting was just called by INDYCAR.

11:29 ET: In light of the dramas this week, some teams are saying it's possible the series will allow all cars--including a 34th entry--to start the race. It is unsubstantiated at the moment, but we are looking into it.

11:40 ET: REVISED PRACTICE + QUALIFYING PROCEDURE:-
Practice is now set for 1-1:30 for Group 1, 1:30-2 for Group 2.
First qual attempt is at 3:15 - 1 shot each.
NO Top 9 shootout. only a shoot out for the final row.
There WILL be bumping."

I hope this doesnt end up being as big of a black eye as 97 was.

I'm fine with the race boost being the same (it should always be the same IMO) but yeah the same exact aero setup is a little much.

They don't necessarily pick their exact race setup today. They just have to use the same aero pieces for time trials and the race.*

*I think.
