It does seem more likely that it's the bodykit rather then the car itself. We've never had it this bad with the DW12.

This aerokit just has a little extra speed, and a little extra lift backwards. Honestly I dont think we were far off having cars take off in the past with Dallara in similar crashes, they are probably getting that little extra push they need to send em over. Dallara's generally have never really needed much help going airborne.

I'm no scientist; but when a wing that's designed to produce downforce as it's going forward is spun around 180 degrees...isn't it going to produce the polar opposite...lift?

We saw this when the wing was on the COT in Cup.

Call this tin-eared, call this silly, but maybe the aerokit manufacturers and Dallara should get hold of an old Reynard and study its aerodynamic qualities and how it wouldn't lift off despite going quicker than this.

I'd love to see speeds go even higher than what we saw this weekend. Just so long as cars stay on the ground.

Whatever you call it, I agree completely.

I don't think any of the fans have a problem with the speeds, or cars being difficult to handle. They just shouldn't fly, that's all.

It's concerning how many comments on social media seem to be of the opinion that cars crashing at 200mph are always going to take off so deal with it? I watched many an Indy 500 in the 1990s and can't think of many cars getting airborne. Surely the problem is with Dallara or the aero kits (or a combination of both)? I don't recall Reynards and Lolas going flying other than contact from touching wheels.

The last two accidents do remind me a lot of the Mears accident from the past, and if it was a one off I wouldn't be too concerned. But two of those in a matter of days and the way Helio's car took off? No, something is not right.

I hate to agree with Scotty but it is what it is, if the circumstances are right, any racing car will take off at those speeds, if they don't want to run the risk of a car becoming airbourne this week, the only option is to cancel the whole event, or limit them to sub-200mph speeds, and even then there is no guarantee it won't happen, it's just reducing the risk.

I appreciate a lot of people say 'well formula 1 cars don't have this problem', well they won't since they aren't going at 240mph when they start to spin, more like 180 at the most and by the time they have swapped ends, they have scrubbed off a lot of speed, an indycar scrubs off speed too, but the scrubbed off speed of the indycar, is still higher than the f1 car w before it started to spin. Comparing F1 and Indycar flight charastics is like comparing apples and oranges, the only similarity is both cars have 4 wheels and are open cockpit.

Thanks for whoever posed the espnplayer link, unfortunately it don't work, and I have to go to the shop before they close so I better do that instead lol.

Do they have enough of the default Dallara bodykit for everyone left over?

The cars aren't lifting off when they spin backwards. Not sure where everyone is getting that.

It's only when they impact the wall.

They arent lifting from being backwards alone..Though Helio's got light in the rear..its when they get knocked up by the wall and air hits the flat Dallara floor. Which is made worse this year by a little increase in speed and lift.

The DW12 has always had that lift when hitting the wall the way Newgarden and Carpenter did but it never took off like they did. Only reason Conway took flight was Power's car pushing him up. So if what that tweet says is true then it's a Chevy issue.

The issue with Ed's car messing up the surface makes sense. No way this delay should have been that long if it were just a little bit of SAFER and fencing damage.

From the reports im hearing..This delay is more of a Drivers/Teams/Manufactures vs Indycar war right now.

Just let them run, the Chevy teams know the score, if they don't want to take the risk, let them withdraw.
