If there’s one thing for IndyCar to investigate for the future, it would be the possible introduction of NASCAR-style flaps on the exposed underwing diffusers.

Cue the arrival of "Dem roof flaps did der job rite der" in Indycar.

Maybe we should discuss the next F1 Grand Prix in French only, if we should completely rely on local habits. :innocent:
And dont forget to rub some sand in your eyes when you watch Dakar next time. Since the sand is what really matters there.

No offence tho

Well, it is an American based series and its record books, timing and scoring, etc. all use MPH...

381kph=236.793mph.

A record speed in KPH is also a record speed in MPH, if we need to set the record straight on that. :o

I'm quite aware you can just convert the numbers. That's not the fucking point.

F1 = European. km/h is appropriate and more common.
IndyCar = America. mph is appropriate and more common.

Edit -- sorry if this sounded too aggressive. I've had a bad morning... Had a nice nap at lunchtime though, so I'm feeling less crabby now!

Dunno about anyone else but I found this article to be incredibly insulting, bordering on the condescending. It was as if he had zero respect for the intelligence of his readers. The car got air because a wing inverted creates lift... yeah no shit Sherlock.

Yeah I agree with that. Look, undercar wings are nothing new here. In all the decades Indycars have had ground effects, Helio isn't the first car to spin sideways and crash... It is however the first time I can remember an Indycar ever blowing over while going backwards. Think about it for a minute... Have any of you ever seen an Indycar do an impersonation of a NASCAR blowover?

Tottaly agree on that.

Finally able to read and post it here after internet problems all day yesterday.

Image
The flip seem to occur when the car hit the wall with it's LEFT side, making the RIGHT side want to roll in the direction of the wall, lifting up, and then it got the air needed to make the process continue on it's own. But the first snap shot, of the car spining BEFORE it hit the wall, with some small air time already, is woresome. Imagine if this is a trend, the flips may like be a 50% chance then, just need a little 'help'.

Anyway, I need to see that more in slow-mo and would love to see it in a wind-tunnel. All the forces it can create when it goes backwards. How much up force is there?

Dario Franchitti, Michigan 2007
There's another that I remember but cannot name for the life of me, Darren Manning was involved (2005 Chicagoland?).

And of course Mario Andretti, Marco Andetti and Sam Hornish have all suffered blowovers at Indy by either being turned on the straight or hitting debris.

That article may be insulting to you or I, but 95% of the words population haven't a clue about aerodynamics.

Stream for today's practice session.

Simona's car is back at the track today.

Power, Montoya & Bourdais trying the sidepod extension pieces (not sure if the actual name, could also be called a vanity panel) today?
