Was just scrolling back through the thread and came across the '01 Pepsi 400. I remember watching that whole race. My parents got home with about 20 to go and when Jr. won I think we all were jumping around the living room. It always struck me that in the closing stages Kenny Schrader, Michael Waltrip and Jr. were at or near the front. I remember thinking that all the players needed for something special were in place. NASCAR did not disappoint me that night.

I was at this race. Had two drunk girls jumping up and down on me crying that he won the race. Good times.

I remember I got out of work with 45 mins before it started. I had to pick up my buddy, grab 2 pizzas and haul ass to my Dad's house. I think I barely dipped below 80mph... and no, there's no highways between where I live and my Dad's place.

I was in a car accident the day before the '01 Pepsi 400, wrote off my parents' '91 Honda Civic and was at fault for it. I was down in the dumps quite a bit about it and still kinda sore (not to mention randomly biting down on shards of glass that somehow ended up in my mouth), but seeing Dale Jr. win that race cheered me up quite a bit. :)

Wonder why they didn't wear helmets. However, do yourself a favor and watch it on the youtube page, the comments are worth it!

The '96 spring race. Damn, I loved that Kodak car when Sterling Marlin drove it. Especially at Daytona & Talladega.

Here we have a probably quite rare 90-minute documentary about NASCAR from the mid-70s.

Significance of this clip: Footage from the first NASCAR Truck race ever held, July 30, 1994.

I've decided to watch the 2004 Nextel Cup Season

25 laps into the Vegas race, they're still running 3 wide :flag:

In retrospect, the years leading up to the COT were pretty good - including the 2007 races they ran with the COY.

Then 2008 came, and the good races were few and far between for quite some time. :(

Up to the July Daytona race and the style of racing is definitely a lot different, starting with the speeds.

They're barely touching 190 in the draft and there isn't a big pack everywhere.

The cars seem to spread out more, but can also close in better. They are also much more stable than today's plate cars.

As to what I prefer, early 2000's for me.

I'm cheating here with an ARCA clip, but its worth it: The infamous Frank Kimmel/Scott Neal throwdown from the '96 Winchester race.
