BUDWEISER DUEL AT DAYTONA
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

February 19th @ 7pm EST on FOX Sports 1
Race Length: Two 150-mile/60-lap races

Race Format:
- The two fastest qualifiers (the Daytona 500 pole winner and the outside pole winner) are awarded the pole positions for each Duel race respectively. Provided they do not switch to a backup car, these two drivers will be locked into their respective positions regardless of Duel finish.
- Starting positions for the Duel races are set by qualifying speed. Drivers who qualify in odd-numbered positions compete in the first race. Drivers who qualify in even-numbered positions compete in the second race.
- Positions 3 thru 32 for the Daytona 500 are set by the finishing order of both Duel races.
- Positions 33 thru 36 for the Daytona 500 are set by the fastest 4 drivers in pole qualifying not already locked in through Duel finish.
- The final 6 (or 7) positions for the Daytona 500 go to the highest finishing drivers in 2014 Owner's Standings not already locked in through Duel finish or pole qualifying speed.
- If necessary, the 43rd spot for the Daytona 500 will be awarded to the most recent Sprint Cup champion not already locked in through the above criteria, via the Past Champion's Provisional.

There is no point to this race anymore.

While every NASCAR fan I know seems to count down to the 500, I'm the only one counting down to the Bud Shootout... and yes, I know it's the Sprint Unlimited, but gaahhhd, it's a horrible name.

Also, thanks for having a race on Valentine's Day... *grumble* Taking the lady out for a fancy dinner at 5:00, but still feel kinda guilty for plopping my arse down to watch a race on that day in particular. Not that it's a super-special day or anything, but a Sunday morning race - like the old days - would be fun for them to do again some day.

Damn, almost 9 years in, she's still not a race fan, and the best I can accomplish is "you watch the race, I'll make snacks!" Which... y'know, I'll take it. :)

Sounds like my wife, but she pops in every half hour to ask if anything happened, then always wants to know who won and where Junebug finished. Sometimes I won't tell her and say if she was that interested she should have sat her arse down and watched the race instead of reading shitty Hello.

At least the shootout is early morning here, technically next day, so no problem with having to postpone valentines meals lol

Allmendinger reportedly not running the Unlimited. JTG-Daughtery opting to concentrate on the 500.

With Vickers out and Brian Scott seemingly without a Cup ride, that'll put Bowyer, Menard, and Mears into the field.

I guess it's okay to post here considering it is a historic part of Speedweeks but anyway.

NASCAR, SPEED51 and FansChoice.TV just announced that they would be streaming 5 nights of racing live from New Smyrna Speedway as part of their World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing event. Nights that have racing at NSS that are on the same night as a race at Daytona will have same day delay coverage (i.e. 2/14, 2/19, 2/20). NASCAR also announced that the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race from New Smyrna on 2/15 will be on NBC Sports Network on 2/19 after the end of the Budweiser Duels (10:30PM ET)
