When I was child I liked races already but never had the patience to watch races going along like I had in the past 18 years since my first race as an enthusiast. That means I never actually saw Senna race, only in watching reruns and all that stuff that is available nowadays. But I remember the May 1st, 1994 and the following days, it was the saddest motorsport moment I witnessed, millions of people in the streets to mourn their hero. Seeing just by the crash itself, it was just a champion that went away doing what he loves, but for many people, it was the loss of their only source of happiness and joy during difficult times.

I still get very emotional seeing the reaction of regular people like me to his death, and just like Niki Lauda says about James Hunt "I wasn't surprised, I was just sad" explains a lot what we feel.

Anyway Senna is not my all time favorite driver, but he did that on the limit and that's why the brand slogan is so appropriate (Driven to perfection), because he achieved that on some circunstances during his career (Monaco 1988 qualifying, Brazil 1991, Donnington 1993) and that's why we pay tribute to him every May 1st.

Keep on the limit, you're still an inspiration.

they have already dumped again tracks like Turkey, Valencia, India and Korea. If Austin doesn't start to give interesting races soon they might drop that as well in 2 years.

It's down to money. Some countries are willing to waste money on bringing F1 to their dire, shitty, soulless and spectator free shitholes.

And F1 is too willing to gobble up that money.

It's simply because that money is needed to sustain F1 and the way it is organised and managed by stakeholders.

lol, don't be naive. If CVC want enough ROI, Bernie simply has to find countries who pay massive sums to host a race.

Bernie skims a percentage from each deal, might not sound much but 7% of £100Mil is £7Mil.

It's how he became as powerful and rich as he did, the teams didn't want to collectively negotiate with tracks & TV companies, so he said OK I'll do it if you give me 7% (or 9% can't remember which) of what I get you, they said fine no problem, then it happened again, and gain, the teams were happy to have someone dong all the work for them. The other 93% was then split between FOM & the teams. When you have 10-14 people in a room none of whome can even agree on the color of the sky, let alone rules, it was easy pickings for the likes of Bernie, as easy as taking candy from a baby.

Every penny Bernie brings in to CVC is profit for them now, they've long since got back the £2billion it cost them, and every time a £70million 5 year deal is announced, 7-9% of that is his commission, the teams, drivers, tracks and TV companies were all happy with the arrangement, so if you want someone to blame, blame them.

did Bernie made his testament already? it would be very surprising if he gives the whole money to improve F1 but I guess his wife and daughters will take it all

Bernie 'owns' nothing, it's all tied up in complicated family trusts to avoid paying tax, if he needs money, it's 'loaned' to him by the 'trust' meaning no tax is due.

The BBC did an investigation into him a while ago, he tried (multiple times) to get an injunction to stop them airing it, but failed.

These kinds of trusts are all very complicated and a total mindfuck to try and pick apart.

It is actually a very interesting interview and I can understand his reasoning behind saying that Ferrari is in a way lucky. Of course they worked their arses off last year when the car was built, but in general i agree.
