For that season so much so I even recorded the entire thing on a vhs.

Aside from the start drama (flipperz lol) the race is seen as a classic because Schumacher in the dominant Ferrari was out of position and was likely to fight his way through.
He did this in the first round of pit stops by pitting earlier than jenson and setting hot laps.
He was planning to do this after the final sc too, win the race by shooting ahead of Trull and setting enough quick lap times to come out in the lead after his final stop.
"Sit back and enjoy this ladies and gents' said cock commentator James Allen "this is going to be something special"
Then Micheal decided to foolishly do a stoppy in the tunnel and that ended that idea.
The point being it was seen as a classic race and at no point did the top 3 do anything but find their own empty piece of track to hotlap.
There were 2 overtakes in the entire race....Both of them JPM

And before anyone thinks "well obviously, monaco was like that. ..It's monaco!" Well such a thing was common back then, indeed Micheal used the same strategy to win France a couple of races later.

Races where the leaders "race" while 30 seconds apart must never be allowed to happen again.
At least when the Mercedes has problems this year they had to overtake their way back to the front.

But THAT sound <3

Nope, he was just lucky the lights went out at that point. He would have gotten a penalty had he not gone kaboom.

Put it on open channels for prices they can afford so it's not watching 30 seconds of racing in between commercials and the rating will skyrocket again.

I'm afraid it's not that simple.

German RTL and Austrian ORF have already threaten to stop broadcasting after 2016(on the links).

The drop happens everywhere and it's not a pay wall consequence because it also happens on the FTA channels.

On the autosport thread, there is a huge debate about the reasons. It's worth reading, imho.

It has been constant decline(for years in a row) on BBC, RTL, Sky UK and Deutschland
Quote:
German tv rating
Year/average number of viewes per race, in millions
2014 4.36
2013 5.28
2012 5.58
2011 5.94
2010 6.29
2008 5.14
2007 5.90
2006 7.62
2005 6.94
2004 8.51
2003 8.97
2002 9.32
2001 10.44
2000 9.87
1999 8.91
1998 9.19
1997 7.90
1996 6.40
1995 5.63
1994 3.74

Similar trends are happening in the UK, Spain and Italy among others.

France tv rating is a shadow of what it was in the 90s. Nederlands has no FTA(maybe will change with Verstappen) broadcast anymore. Brazil(largerst amount of F1 viewers in a country) also see constant declines in ratings and qualifying was shortened to Q3, this year.

Yeah, TV Globo earns almost 300 million with the 5 adverts it puts before and after each race (plus some other times like news). But it's amazing, considering the lack of a nice champion fighter since Senna.

To be honest, ORF does not have a recline in viewers. The number of viewers is constant, which can also be linked with the excellent commentators, whereas the broadcast of RTL in Germany is an utter nuisance. It quite simply is impossible to watch. It's on the intellectual level of the cheapest tabloids, there are constantly ad breaks and so on. So IÄm not the least bit surprised that RTL's numbers a dwindling.

I saw the TV numbers and had the same exact thought!

If I'm in a situation which would force me to watch RTL because I don't have ORF, I rather go for a bad Sky stream than RTL on a Full HD TV

we are luck to have races in times like 9AM, 3AM and 4AM and only 3 races during the afternoon slots (4 in 2015). this allows to lead the ratings but with lesser and lesser viewers. Looks like only the fans who have patience are still holding on (and is unbelievable on how they screw up with the broadcast of the early morning races)

Marussia auction stopped for talks with potential buyer.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/117395

I'd like it if they did finally manage to find a buyer but they'd only spend the time DNQing.

Yeaa because behind the scenes they have been trying hard to save the team, its just a shame that they'd have lost all that development time and would be worse then HRT.

Lotus F1 being awesome at social media again. Retweeting and answering that vs. ignoring

Hahaha agreed :D

It's just plain sad to see TV stations sabotage themselves with ridiculously bad coverage and then blaming it onto other factors.
