Chase Race #10: the finale! :flag:

Image

16 drivers have been put through hell in a handbasket thanks to Brian France's new Chase elimination format which, as everyone knows by now, is wonderful and perfect and isn't fucking stupid in any way whatsoever. Some drivers have literally been left bloodied and bruised from the experience. Now only 4 remain:

* Kevin Harvick won his way into the Chase at Phoenix after his championship hopes seemed dashed by a poor showing at Martinsville. Will 13 years of perseverance finally pay off for Happy Harvick?
* Denny Hamlin made it into the Chase despite missing a race, because slipping a few briefcases of money under Brian's desk can do that for you. Will it be "Denny time" at Homestead?
* With 5 wins this season, Joey Logano has been pulling off championship-caliber runs all season. Will they be spreading a little championship sauce on that Sliced Bread?
* Ryan Newman beat out Jeff Gordon to get here by plowing into a guy and wrecking him like a dirty asshole using clean racing. Will The Rocketman bulldoze everybody cleanly race into a championship?

Regardless of who wins it all, one thing is certain: Fans will get angry and bitch about the race on this message board. And then we'll all drag ourselves back here in February ready to give the sport one more chance. Why? Because we just can't quit you, NASCAR, flaws and all.

Is that "Fatal 4 Way" an actual term they use?

no I'd guess it's something the WWE use though.

No, he just photoshopped the four remaining contenders onto a WWE background. Lol.

Anyways, I don't even know what the truck situation is. Kyle is running the last race and will win, but what do the points look like?

Sounds like Crafton will be the first repeat Champ unless Ryan Blaney pulls off a miracle.

2003: Ryan Newman wins 8 races but not even close to the championship. The champion only wins 1 race, and so The Chase is born.
2014: There is very real possibility that Newman can win the championship without winning any race, in a format that was supposedly thought up to make winning races more important.

lmao

I get the feeling Newman will be in the wall.

They'll all get their teammates to put their rivals in the wall. Just about right for this joke of a championship.

Harvick will be the Champion then, he has the most teammates.

Too bad that Cale Gale won't be in the truck race to spoil the Kryle party again...

Go Harvick. I'm neutral on Joey.

If Denny or Newman win I will be pissed. I know it would be funny and point out the flaws in the system, but I would upset that Harvick's great season would go to waste, similar to 2010.

Also, I was doing some thinking about yesterday's race. The actual race was pretty terrible. Harvick nearly led the whole damn thing. No one will remember that though because we were all focused on 12th place. The chase system is doing a pretty good job of hiding how bad the actual racing up front has been.

If ESPN does a closing video Sunday thanking everyone, it could never be as good as this one that they did when they left the first time back in 2000.

The fact that I'm questioning this says much about the image NASCAR is trying to attain these days

Obviously it's apples to oranges, but if they were using the typical 10 race Chase points, here's how it'd look.. Logano would pretty much have it locked up.

Quote:
Unofficial Chase Standings using 2013 Sprint Cup Chase rules:
[after Phoenix, race 35 of 36]
1) #22-Joey Logano [5 wins] 2368
2) #4-Kevin Harvick [4 wins] 2342, -29
3) #2-Brad Keselowski [6 wins], 2320, -48
4) #24-Jeff Gordon [4 wins] 2312, -56
5) #31-Ryan Newman, 2311, -57
6) #20-Matt Kenseth, 2296, -72
7) #99-Carl Edwards [2 wins] 2278, -90
8 ) #18-Kyle Busch [1 win] 2277, -91
9) #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. [4 wins], 2271, -97
10) #16-Greg Biffle [1 win], 2244, -124
11) #48-Jimmie Johnson [4 wins], 2239, -129
12) #5-Kasey Kahne [1 win], 2199, -169
(11-9-2014)

Non-Chase:
Quote:
Unofficial Top 25 in 2014 Sprint Cup Driver Points Standings (not the Chase):

1) #24-Jeff Gordon(EC), 1217

If somebody doesn't get their shit dumped for the win it was all a waste*

*not my actual opinion. But with as much hype NASCAR is putting around the fights, you can damn well bet they'd use that to promote the hell out of next year's chase while simultaneously fining the crews involved for actions "detrimental to stock car racing".
