I believe the reason they didn't do anything with the DP-01 post merger was partly because there wasn't enough of them, Partly because they had never run on an oval & I'm not sure the oval aero packages even existed outside of a scale wind tunnel model.

But it was perhaps mostly because of existing IRL contracts with Dallara & the fact that by 2008 they were a large supply of IR-03 chassis as well as spares.

I've always been under the impression that Panoz only won the ChampCar tender because it was the cheapest chassis, it was rushed into production and it wasn't as good as it could have been with proper and extensive R&D. That over the Dallara being used in IRL was a no brainier.

Yeaa, Panoz also promised onboard starters then forgot about it until the last moment.

Never liked the DP-01, it was just so boring to look at and really didn't shout CART like the Lola's, Reynards, Swift's, Penske's etc did in the past.

It was based on ground effect so cars could follow each other closely through fast corners and was actually a challenge for the drivers to handle, two things the irl cars of the time could not even begin to compare with

And while it probably didn't look quite as good as the lolas and especially reynards, it still was head and shoulders above those crap wagons, looks wise.

The real reason they didn't continue with it was because dallara opened a facility in indianapolis making all future chasis tenders a lock in for them despite what indycar pretends by putting it out to tender.

Look at the tender process for the dw12. No other manufacturer had a realistic shot and we all knew it.

thankfully they converted that thing into a FWD WEC LMP1 that fails a lot, a electric prototype and the proof that Nismo fell in love with that hideous design

The Delta Wing was being funded and lobbied for by Ganassi. It was the team's choice. If Dallara hadn't built the factory in Indianapolis...

Either way, the Swift was not going to get chosen.

Thats what wanted to never happen, a head-on crash of the Deltawing... The barrier would be just cut ....

wouldn't they demand a crash test to avoid this kind of thing?

quite illogical to approve a racing car today that runs a 220mph average in speedways

Wouldn't you test how a car behaves when it goes backwards at a certain speed?
