Relief.

Now if they can get Mexico City and Phoenix back, and save Milwaukee: best racing schedule on earth.

Lap one, turn 5 = LOL

Also, just another reminder of what a shame it is the merged IndyCar Series didn't opt for the DP01 chassis (better looking, faster, works well in dirty air) and the turbo V8 Ford Cosworth (sweet Jesus, that engine note is just perfection. It's what I miss most about CART/Champ Car).

You could market it with the tagline "The Chiropractor's Dream".

That happened once and was fixed pretty quickly.
Was basically negative publicity spread by irl-istas at the time to denegrate champ car.
Needless to say they needn't have bothered wasting their time with how it turned out

The only problem with the DP-01 was that it was criminally undertested leading to the issue you mentioned

Once they were in to the second half of the season and especially when it was adapted for Superleage Formula, it became pretty tast.

Anyway, fantastic news about road america and apparently Ra is going to cross promote with milwaukee too leading to it staying on the calender which is win-win all round

Now all we need is laguna seca and Cleveland and I'm finally a happy open wheel fan again

I thought both of those cars had problems with spinal fractures.

The irl one maybe. The DP01 hurt Tracy in long beach and they changed the seating position iirc.

Early IRL cars had the worst problem with spinal fractures TBH. Lots of broken backs, necks, and concussions especially in the beginning years, far more serious injuries than CART despite less races.

Since the early 2000s, no chassis has compared to that. I think Dallara made some updates in the early 2000s (probably after Sam Schmidt's crash in particular) and safety was improved (although IRL was always more dangerous due to the oval / pack racing formula they had, the inherent problems that caused large amounts of concussions and back injuries was reduced).

I don't recall too many people mentioning things about either the DP-01 or the IR-05, not outside the IRL vs. CART message board flamewars at least.

Justin Wilson got luck so because he's too tall and could get some issues like he did in Mid-Ohio a few years ago

also to note on the return to Road America.

* - It is a multi-year deal
* - all 3 ladders of the Mazda Road to Indy (Indy Lights, Star Mazda & USF2000) and the Pirelli World Challenge (GT/GT-A/GT Cup and GTS classes) will be the support classes
* - Road America is interested in co-promoting with the Milwaukee race (likely to return in 2016 :) )
