Lotus drivers approve of this change: http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2014/8/16276.html

Let me analyse this using the Disgruntled F1 Fan Official Translator ©
Romain Grosjean wrote:
“I remember sometimes in the past coming into the corner and knowing that if you brake even a little bit too late then you could be straight in the gravel and then straight to the wall at high speed.

“I think that now what you will see is the drivers finding the limits sooner, because we know there will not be the big gravel and crash penalty like previously.”

Sentence 1: good heavens, I could crash while racing hard in an F1! Scary shit. This needs to stop.
Sentence 2: finding the limit of a challenging corner is how I truly earn my 6 or 7-figure income. I love my job made easy for me.

That first sentence from Romain is so dumb it beggars belief

Yeah why on earth didn't they put dirt on the outside of a blindingly fast corner?

I'm probably the only person who's really excited about this race.

unlike many fans, I've never been a fan of this track. A few reasons
1) race length is too short (yes, I know it's the same race distance...)
2) I can't think of exciting racing taking place here in recent decades. Schumacher vs Hamilton in 2011 was probably the best
3) first corner is so bland. I used to love it when it were those two chicanes in quick succession.
4) Parabolica - come on, is it really such a good corner? I fail to see that.

1. Yes.
2. Probably yes. The atmosphere though. 2006 was brilliant, even though I was in no way a Schumacher fan. Almost eery to think of that race now.
3. Yes, very much. The double chicane was brilliant, but a bit dangerous. The design of it was one of the main causes of Ronnie Peterson's death, but at the end of it life it was okay, altough Ralf and Herbert had a moment there.
4. No.

I might be mistaken but I believe that this happened just after the start and still quite some distance away from the first corner.

Interesting. Force India had 3 drivers doing laps in one session: Hulkenberg, Juncadella and Perez. Actually team can have 4 drivers per friday session in one session, so theoretically if 4 test drivers take part in FP1, another 4 test drivers take part in FP2 and race drivers do rest of the weekend, a team can have 10 drivers in one weekend!?

The tarmac at the Parabollica runoff thus far hasn't really changed how drivers go through it, With the exception of 3-4 occasions where small errors were made there not even putting 2 wheels on the white line & are running the same line through the exit as they were in the past.

Bernie has called a meeting with all the team principals to discuss the 2015 schedule (Bahrain wants to be the season opener) & on ways to improve the show.

Ivan Capelli also had a meeting with Bernie to discuss the future of Monza.

Oh no, that's a silly place to start the season. Melbourne has the atmosphere & beautiful skyline/lake. The one (Possiblly 2) times Bahrain has opened it felt like a boring season opener. Hopefully Ron Walker shuts this one down with a firm NO.

I'm sick of oil sheiks wanting their Grand Prix to be more special, so they pay Bernie for special place in the calendar.
Guess Bahrain also wants double points because Abu Dhabi has that too.
Just remove both of them from calendar. Those countries should only bring sand from the desert for runoff areas of other tracks. :p

I absolutely hate astro turf on racing tracks. It's a death trap for motorbikes (not that I expected WSBK to return to Monza, but still) and just gets ripped away by cars which are slowed down only marginally (if at all), spreading debris left and right. And when it's wet it's almost as slippery as grass.
Can't understand why they don't just leave tarmac or put real grass - or those rough surfaces as at Paul Ricard.
