why should Tony paid if a drug addict jumped in front of his car, wearing a black suit on a dark track at night....

drugs are bad.

Tony should sue the family for costing him a chance to make the chase.

Been to enough short tracks around the states, I know that smoking weed during the night is common practice, although it never really results in anything more than high nachos and cheese sales. It's a shame that this poor kid will have the everlasting image as an irresponsible pothead when, in all honesty, both he and Tony made bad judgement. A sad ending to a super-sad story.

Says the one that sounds like he's off in cloud cuckoo land right now, of course he shouldn't pay, but you can bet it's what the lawyers will tell him, and his sponsors won't want a long drawn out civil case hanging over things.

Yeah that is a strange one. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that Ward might have been on some medication that the DA doesn't want people to spin in crazy angles.

Looks like we all had a similar idea....just didn't think it was gonna be weed.

The story would change to "Long Hits Driver In Entrance To Garage Area."

"Carl Long run over by other driver, NASCAR bans Carl Long's corpse for 2 years" IMO.

You have to wonder how this whole thing would have been handled by the media and whatnot had the Ward having weed in his system information appeared earlier. I kind of feel sorry for Tony that it didn't, to be honest.

^^^ Yup.

Also, wasn't the whole point of the investigation to prove that Stewart didn't intentionally swerve into Ward?? If so, and if that was indeed proven, why would the family go through the whole process again? To have someone look at the exact same footage we've been looking at for the last two months, and have the exact same info that's already been gone over with a fine-toothed comb, won't generate any new results.

The only reason for them to do this is the hope that Stewart will want to settle some kind of monetary payoff, which if you ask me is pretty damn low.

I went from having sympathy for them (even after learning about the weed thing) to shaking my head in disgust. The kid made a mistake that cost him his life and severely impacted the life of another. End of story.

Because the family lost their son and as they see it, someone has to be held accountable for it. At this point they cannot accept that Kevin made a few terrible mistakes.

Long gone are the "shit happens" days. Today, if someone dies, someone MUST be held accountable.

typical view of what most Europeans have of Americans.

"we did something stupid, lets sue someone".

sorry if I have offended anyone.

tis the same in Europe now, shit doesn't happen anymore, someone is always accountable, even if it's the person that took your money and forgot to say this is a rally event so be careful of flying stones.

Mallory Park lost a case last year(?) after a spectator was hit by a stone off a rally car, the spectator successfully sued Mallory on the grounds they had not provided an acceptable level of duty of care by not stopping the person standing so close to the stage..... (I think that's how it happened, either that or it was the Council that prosecuted them for H&S failures).

Good read for those of you who don't follow drag racing or know who Lori Johns is. Although she didn't die, it's still a precedent on suing other competitors on the track you share over an accident.
