As usual, you can expect half the field to run out of gas on a GWC finish in the Nationwide race. Sadly, no Villeneuve to go all "Destruction Derby 2" on the field, and no bitch slap antics from Max Papis either.

Road courses not your cup of tea? ARCA's got some Saturday night short-track excitement from Elko, in a race airing live on CBS Sports Network. That is, if you're lucky enough to have the channel.

I love the road course races every year, but I think adding too many has the propensity to create boring events. If the teams were sinking the R&D money into RC races that they would for, say, 1.5 milers, then the race cars and drivers would no longer be out of their element, thus taking away some unpredictability. Imagine if BTCC ran 3 oval races, would those fans be clamoring for more? Not so sure. Also, what are Papis and Vilenueve doing that they cant be there for the N'wide race? Seems like they enjoyed doing it last few years.

Max Papis has been seen on TV almost as a Siamese Twin attached to Richard Childress in the pits and garage for the past month - figured he was butt-kissing for a road course ride. Sounds like that is not the case. Maybe he is simply RC's chief toady now.

I have Comcast, and I have that channel.. 594 for me.

Papis has been mentoring the Dillons for a few years now, doing a variety of things to help them further their careers. I believe he does some spotter work, as well.

Also have Comcast, dropped the "Sports Entertainment Package" last month and still get CBSSN, in HD even.

They're still the worst

Thanx for that reminder / new info about Papis. At my age memory doesn't serve well sometimes. Good for Max, I guess. Never met Papis, so have no idea if he is a good guy or not. RC was a good guy in the early 80's, but big money changed him in the late 80's. I probably would be even worse if I ever received millions of dollars rather suddenly. RC did alienate many of his longtime employees for sure.

I refer to this book by Peter Golenbock again as being one of the most honest Nascar books ever. Especially Lou LaRosa's comments about RCR, DW and Larry Mac. Never met Glolenbock, but he definitely tells it like it all was back in the day.

I read that Ty Dillon will be running in the SCCA Trans-Am Race at Road America in order to get more experience before the Nationwide race.

Just realized I signed up to help my friend move into his new house on Saturday... damn. Hope we're all done with before one of the craziest races of the year! Hell, I've been dealing with a cold for a week now, and maybe I'll cough and hack and puke and he'll send me home.

That would be awesome!
