Can't remember tbh, they just said on ES that area was a red area for spectators anyway, so it's probably safe to assume the fence is there to stop the cars getting to the trees rather than protecting spectators, so they could restart the session without having to worry about urgently needing to rebuild the fence to protect the spectators.

As its has been said before though, the front looked almost good. Probably his car flew backwards into the catchfence, couldn't have been a ''better'' impact for him.
