What you guys did not take account for about RB is the DRS effect.

The others are running less downforce(even if have more powerful engines as STR proves), therefore, will have less effect of the DRS while RB will have a very significant improve with it.

The issue will be, if they have a slower race pace than any car, they will be easily overtaken. But if they are faster and the car in front can't use DRS, then, they'll be able to pass.

Btw, what's up with Finnish drivers, can't drive in the rain? :whistling:

Ok, it's hard to beat Alonso, but at least make it to Q3. While Bottas only outqualified Massa in the dry. How bad can you be in the wet if you are constantly slower than Massa

That Maldonado win seems like a crazy odd thing now and so does Valtteri's qualifying in Canada last year.

wat.

cars running less downforce will still have a speed advantage through DRS...the rear flap still opens up it's full amount.

I believe what he is saying is the percentage reduction in drag will be greater for RBR than teams running less downforce when DRS is activated, which is a fair point, however whether it's enough to overcome the large deficit they are running and give them the ability to successfully overtake down the straight when the car in front is without DRS is to be seen, at least they have the slipstreaming effect to aid further. What it does tell us though is that without DRS open the top speed of RBR compared to Merc would be an even greater deficit, which is fucking worrying for them.

Can't see them being able to stick with Merc, just hope those two fight it out like in Bahrain to keep things exciting out front.

Yup. The same thing happens in Monza where DRS has much less effect because they are already running very little downforce anyway.

surprise surprise

Good morning from Shanghai. The rain has gone - looks like it's going to be a dry race today

Something I've noticed this weekend with the Red Bull on the long race runs in FP2 on the straght is that there noticeably losing speed towards the end of the straght as there either running out of ERS power or just been very aggressive with the harvesting of energy.

Realised Maldonado's grid penalty is meaningless. Did they change it to carry over or am I thinking of another series?

Sky Sports had this arguement yesterday. Some teams say its in the regs to be carried over (as does Brundle), others (Crofty) think it wasn't.

Green track will make a fun race

Power unit related penalties are carried over for one event, but driving standards penalties are not.

Guess we shall find out come the next race. I'm sure I read somewhere that it would be, I swear I remember some making fun of Chilton by saying his 5 place penalty would be over multiple races

New tyres? *Munches on them*

Sky found a group of school kids and teachers on a school trip to China and have gone to the F1. I think my school went wrong somewhere, never had trips like that!

I'm here at home and even able to post during a race.

Feels weird.

Having to hunt for a stream feels weirder tbh, this is the first time I've seen a race at home since the sky deal came in.

Anyone know if the on-board feed is streamed anywhere? Miss being able to press red button on my TV and watch it.

Warm-up lap. Hoping for similar race to Bahrain. Nice fights, battle for the win, couple of maldonado attacks etc.
