In the absence of a race thread, I'll start one...

Round 2 is upon us and takes place in the surroundings of the region that witnessed Multi-21 in 2013, otherwise known as Sepang.

Image

Capacity 80,000
FIA Grade 1
Broke ground 1 November 1997
Opened 7 March 1999
Architect Hermann Tilke
Major events FIA Formula One, FIM MotoGP
Length 5.543 km (3.444 mi)
Turns 15
Lap record 1:34.223 (Juan Pablo Montoya, Williams, 2004)

2013
1st - Sebastian Vettel Red Bull-Renault
2nd - Mark Webber Red Bull-Renault
3rd - Lewis Hamilton Mercedes

But obviously it wasn't all about Red Bull and Vettel's defiance of team orders. Mercedes also instigated team orders which benefited Lewis Hamilton over Nico Rosberg.

So on to 2014 and after race 1 the standings are:

25 - Rosberg
18 - Magnussen
15 - Button
12 - Alonso
10 - Bottas
8 - Hulkenberg
6 - Raikkonen
4 - Vergne
2 - Kvyat
1 - Perez

Race 1 was dominated by a few things:

1 - Nico Rosberg
2 - The noise made about the lack of it
3 - Red Bull's fuel flow calculation conundrum
4 - Unreliable reliability predictions
5 - Magnussen (and the young guns)

What will Sepang bring us?

Should provide some good racing, the track is extremely wide and the weather should play its part as well ;)

My favourite Tilke track along with A1 Ring. The surroundings are much better than smog-ridden desert in China or India for instance. Wide track with nice flow and often some excellent fighting in back and main straight. Though some gravel run-off areas have been replaced with tarmac, there's still some risk to get stuck after spinning out. Unfortunately, rain gets usually too hard for racing or is so light that drops will evaporate immediately.

Expecting strong performance from Mercedes and Williams again.

Which means that they should make Malaysia a double points race, of course.

indeed

what makes me wonder if something happens at Abu Dhabi and the race stops before half distance (quite impossible due to floodlights) and drivers relying on double points to win the championship only wins regular points and fail to win (obviously in favour of Vettel and his 5th title)

The following items must be achieved before a Multi order is instructed:

1 - Build reliable car(s) to finish the race
2 - Provide legal car(s)

Once both of the above are done, then Red Bull can go Multi-nuts.

"Sebastian, your car is showing some ERS issues, expect to lose performance..."

*Ricciardo gets right behind him*

Seb will not waive him by, believing is the Multi 21 all over again, and 2 things are expected to happen on the next laps

1. Turkey 2010 revival
2. Vettel dnf

You don't need to be a fabs to know rain will definitely happen at some point this weekend.

If it happens while they're all standing around doing post race interviews tho, will fume.
