Uh, yeah. I'm guessing NASCAR will take a dim view on him mentioning that though. I believe you are supposed to be black flagged if they know you can't hear your spotter. Might be wrong.

Barnstormer of a race, I guess NASCAR knows what to do now, wash all the rubber off and make sure it's a green track before each race :)

Glad I stayed up for this, class winner.

Yeah. He was awesome by finishing that high without spotter. But let's say he instead of that, causes a big wreck because he wasn't aware of a car near him. And say that a driver gets really hurt because of that. It's a serious matter. I don't think he will get penalized in points or lose his spot, but there probably will be a fine.

I think I'm wrong about that rule. I can recall teams asking NASCAR to black flag their driver for a pit stop from time to time when he can't hear them. So I guess there's no rule that specifies it.

I wonder how he knew when to pit if he didn't have a radio?

I used about 80% of my concentration at work today following the race stream  Glad I did.

And regardless of if he gets in trouble for it, pretty cool that Hamlin did that well without a spotter. It's a pretty rare thing to see a driver really have to fall back on skill and spatial awareness to make it through something like that. Had Austin lost his spotter, no car would have made it to the finish line.

No spotter doesn't mean no communication with crew chief, right?
