Heylen must have been hurt out of the car then. They wouldn't have left his car there for two laps if he was already in distress.

That's concerning.

Also, I was wrong about the 23 car being involved. I assumed that was his onboard they cut to as soon as he finished but in the one replay they showed of the Aston crashing, you could see the 23 just in front of him getting through turn 1 unscathed.

So, who's onboard was that they showed while he was crashing?

Yeah, especially when you consider his own accident. It looked utterly harmless.

Well, it's really hard to figure that out.

Unless there was something they were intentionally not showing the viewers, the finishing sequence was extremely poorly-directed.

Was it head on? There was a Porsche I think that slowly slithered into the T1 tyres at the end there.

Incredibly confusing situation there at the end. Hope Jan and the safety crew are okay...

No. From the onboard the driver was taking a right-hand turn and looked like he must have slid into something with his left side (it was the in-car camera that is basically like you're the passenger looking left at the driver in the car. And this brief shot was shown a couple seconds after the 23 crossed the line.

You can actually see a little "23" on the roll cage from the shot but I swear, when they showed that one external replay of the Aston crashing, you can see the 23 in the foreground making the corner successfully without a hint of visible damage to the car.

And that Porsche you're talking about was the very last car in. That was at least 10-15 seconds after the part I'm talking about. And it's also when that debris at Start/Finish was first visible.

I've watched it back 4-5 times and there's nothing else I can figure out. The only things you can see for sure are:

- 58 car was in the tires for a couple laps
- the blue Aston looked like it was the second car to crash, hitting the wall before it hit the safety truck that was rolling toward the 58
- the last two cars in were: a black Porsche and a white Audi (or was that also a Porsche?). The S/F debris might have come from these two cars, and they got to the tires at fairly low speed.

I'm pretty sure that the black front splitter that was lying around S/F is from the black Porsche sliding in in this shot.

Not that that helps understanding things more :p

Could be. It looked like those last two cars might have wrecked at the line racing eachother and then just trickled into the tires.

Quote:
The accident occurred after the checkered flag involving the No. 007 TRG-AMR Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT America, No. 58 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT America and the No. 22 Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT America.

Heylen’s No. 58 car was stopped on course in Turn 1 and a safety truck was on course to remove it.

As the conditions were wet and slippery heading into Turn 1, Davison lost control of his car and hit the safety truck, with his left front of his car going underneath the truck, and lifting it off the ground.

Davison reported to Sportscar365 that he aquaplaned and was sore, but made it to the podium for podium ceremonies.

Alex Job also confirmed to Sportscar365 that Leh Keen, who was driving the No. 22 car, was also OK. Keen, per the team, crashed in Turn 1 just before the No. 007 car and safety truck.

Spencer Pumpelly, who was driving the No. 73 car, also slid off course into the accident. He wrote on Twitter, “I had a huge crash before start finish. Not sure if TV showed anything but the end of it. I’m fine. We finished 5th but the car is toast.”
