All the great team principals, with the possible exception of Flavio, have had significant experience running a motorsport/F1 team before becoming an F1 team principal

Yeah, this will be a complete disaster. I can't see Ferrari winning a race on merit in the next two years

why not using Ferrari influence to lift Briatore ban and hire him, I think he has a lot in common with Ferrari

Might be a bit of a curveball, but I'd think John Booth would be a good swoop for Ferrari.

Of course something silly like that is not going to happen, since he's not Italian (a requirement after the highly successful years of not having an Italian)

Ferrari pulled another random Italian dude, with no F1 experience, out of the bag to replace Mattiaci. Instead of going for guys like Ross Brawn or other high profile people they put again someone with only marketing experience in the lead of the team. You gotta feel for Vettel, oh wait no I don't...

So Marchionne appoints a guy to run the team in the middle of the season and then sacks him 7 months in after giving him no time to change things. And now because they are already more than halfway into the design process for next year's car, and the engine improvements are pretty much finalised, the new guy will be judged based entirely on his predecessor's decisions.

At least Luca had his head screwed on somewhat.

For those keeping score at the two-year mark;

1 Lewis Hamilton 384
...
8 Jenson Button 126
11 Kevin Magnussen 55

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Was thinking about something similar earlier and was considering dragging up the original reactions to Lewis' move to Mercedes, but thought that would nothing but trolling

Still, 12 wins and 1 World Championship versus 2 podiums for McLaren. But he only did it for the money... :slaphead:

I can't remember if I actually ended up mentioning it on here, but my honest reaction when Di Montezemolo left was that this could be the beginning of the end of Ferrari in F1. He has been the F1 team's biggest supporter, backing the team even during its toughest times. But now with him out of the picture and Fiat and in particular Marchionne taking much more of a role in the running of the team, it leaves them much more open to the threat of being pulled out like any other manufacturer team, regardless of history - if it isn't making sense financially, Marchionne will pull them out, and if he continues to mess with the team, he'll ensure they're going to remain uncompetitive and run the team into the ground

I really do worry for them - there's a lot less room for sentiment now that a hard-headed businessman like Marchionne is running the show

Totally agree. I mean, Indycar was able to survive when the championship's single biggest element was withdrawn. Wasn't it? Oh wait... :whistling:

So a return to the good ol late 80's and early 90's for Ferrari. This should be fun. Will they fire Seb for saying his 2016 car is a truck?

I don't think there's any risk of F1 not making financial sense for them, for as long as they've got the current commercial deals. They're earning a lot more money than the other teams, and that means they're getting much cheaper publicity from F1 than Mercedes or whoever else. I've not done the maths (nor are all the numbers available) but they may even be breaking even or making a profit, when you include their sponsors, and that's before the value for their brand they get from the publicity of continuing to run in F1, even if it's in the midfield.
