The walls are close, probably even closer than Valencia. Will be interesting to see.

it looks fantastic. Great scenery and inspiring lay-out. Will be an instant classic.

I'm surprised you can even see the circuit, considering how far up Putin's arse your head is lodged... :whistling: :p

I understand the master himself (V.V. Putin) will be the first to set a competitive laptime on the track.

I'll just copy my observations on the Russian GP which I made elsewhere:

Quote:
I adore Russia and its rich history. Two observations from my point of view:

a) Sochi - although the history of this place stretches quite a long way back, the real development only started because Russia lost Crimea when the USSR broke up. Crimea used to be the real "bath place" in the Soviet Union, but after the USSR ceased to exist and Crimea was lost to the Ukraine (*), they had to find an alternative. Sochi has always been a bathing place as well, but the real development only started due to the loss of Crimea, which is quite ironic when you think of it.

b) I realise the thinking-process behind hosting F1 in Sochi: so as not to completely let go to waste the facilities created there for the Winter Games. The G8 was also hosted here (or was supposed to be) and Sochi will also host some world cup football games. Behind this all is the idea "if we show enough footage to our population of all these things going on here, they will surely want to travel here as well; and essentially, spend money in our own country". The funny thing now is that Russia is desperate to promote Crimea (Sevastopol in particular) as thé holiday destination. Sochi is still relevant, but Russia wants their residents to come home and visit their lost son, Crimea.
Anyway, I haven't yet reached point b. Why Sochi, when Moscow city with its wide boulevards and epic scenery lends itself to a perfect location for a race?

(*actually it was lost to the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic back in the sixties, when Kruschev 'gifted it' to his people. This was under the assumption that the USSR would never break up, and that thus Crimea would just be Ukrainian on paper but Russian in fact)

That's so disappointing. I thought the walls were going to be close and give a real street circuit feel. Instead, every corner has miles of forgiving run off.

Maybe it'll look better from an external view.

circuit looks like Korea, so it looks shit. Also, who edited that lap together? outside shots don't match the onboards it seems. Outside view shows the car braking for a corner, cut to onboard and he is on a long straigth with no corner in sight :?

Hmm looking at the exit of corners where the walls are not so close at exit, i think many will go very wide at exit, over the line with all wheels..
So i dont like that, the walls should be closer

Are the drivers required to use dash-cams during the race?

There is a very good chance it will rain at some point during the race weekend. October/November is rainy there. :)

It looks like a collection of "greatest hits" of Tilke corners from.....Valencia, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Korea. In other words, its a soulless, bland and boring looking track. I hope I am wrong, cause I am generally excited about new tracks....and then Tilke punches me right in the dick....every time. I hope this time he misses, but from that on board, looks like a direct hit.

Don't blame Tilke, blame the FIA.

But a boring race at tracks like these is 10 times worse than a boring race at a track which is actually nice to look at :p

is it really? I remember being bored to death for Monaco 2007 and most of the Monza races for example.

Until the FIA appoint someone else to build the tracks, I will blame him every time cause he is the one that actually designs the tracks.

Scotty your point is valid, however I would argue that since DRS was introduced and the focus on Pirelli's tyres the racing in general has been better at all tracks (yes, yes, not true racing etc etc, thats for a different day). A bland sameness track will always be a bland sameness track no matter how good the racing is. But I guess things do change over time, Hungary used to be regarded as the shittest track on the calander, but is now some how considered ok.

Races at Monza, Monaco and even Suzuka usually suck, but that doesn't mean those tracks suck. I rather watch free practice sessions held at Monza than Bahrain, I rather watch old onboard clips from Suzuka than Shanghai, I'm more excited about the start of Monaco GP than the start of Korean GP. The quality of that 1,5 hours of racing is not all there is when comparing tracks.
