Pretty cool that "Sir Jack Brabham" is trending worldwide on twitter right now

I love this moment: sheer determination on the last lap. Surtees made a trap for him, he got in there on the oil, yet somehow kept it on the road.

Just watched F1 Legends interview of him. Truly the last legend and great champion of golden era of motor racing.
May he rest in peace.

Few was as determined to RACE as Sir Jack was. There are two stories in particular that I find amazing:

1959, one week before that ever so important final race at Sebring, he was in Nassau to compete in the Bahamas Speedweeks. Not really the most important race in his life. In one of the preliminary heats, where he started last, he was climbing through the field and was challenging for the lead when a rock hit his glasses and shattered them. He got plenty of glass splinters in his eye and had troubles seeing. Bearing in mind that this was one week before the most important race of his life, one would think that he would be extra cautious not to injure himself and would abandon his race to get medical attention as soon as this happened. But no. He continued on, steering and shifting with one hand and covering his bleeding eye with the other. He finished 3rd, then went to hospital. Two days later he finished 4th in 220 mile Nassau Trophy race. And of course, one week after this near-miss he won his first World Driver's Championship.

In 1961, he did the feat of practicing and qualifying in Monaco on the Thursday, flew to Indianapolis to qualify there on Friday and Saturday, then flew back to Monaco to race there on the Sunday.

Imagine these feats today. Lewis Hamilton is hit in the head by a rock in a Blancpain Sprint Series race today, practices in Monaco on Thursday, flies over to Indianapolis on Friday, goes back to Monaco on Sunday morning.

Maybe many more drivers would do it nowadays, if there weren't insurance issues regulating their lives and the risks they take while under contract with their F1 team.

Just heard it here on regular news, which shows how big a legend he was since they barely pay attention to F1 related stuff. Rest In Peace Sir.

New Zealand motorsports also has a lot to thank Sir Jack for as well, without him Bruce McLaren would never have gone to Europe and we'd have no team McLaren, same can be said with Denny Hulme winning for the Brabham team in 1967

Not sure if you guys can watch this outside of NZ, but it's a great clip that was in the sports news in the 6 O'clock news tonight

One of the great regrets of my life is that I attended the 2001, 2002 and 2003 Australian GPs. They used to have the historic and Formula Ford cars just behind the main pits complex. Anybody could just wander along and see the teams and drivers tending to the cars.

On a couple of ocassions I saw Jack looking over the cars and chatting with various team members drivers and fans. Each time I saw him he was chatting with somebody and I didn't want to interrupt him, I always thought, well there will be next year. Sadly there never was a next year as I moved away and he has now passed on.....One of the very few regrets that I have in life, and the funny thing is, I kind of knew it at the time as well.

He'll never be missed, one of the greatest ever. Founder of a team that often displayed some great looking and powerful cars, who came from Australia to win in Europe. He was so fast that we were in may 18 while he passed away in may 19. Forever a godspeed. Rest in peace

Wow, didn't know of those two exploits, impressive. 72 years of age and still setting the pace. Fantastic that the family name is so strong and continues to be so with Matt Brabham being so impressive in the Indy Lights (though under the wrong flag!!!).
