Or it's because they're getting Whitmarsh in return.

Thought this was interesting, Pat Symmonds on Sky regarding the Lotus nose:

"Yes I think its legal, They have been hemorrhaging staff over the past few months so we all had a very good idea of the direction they were going with it".

Doesn't make their situation any better. And I could write down all kinds of comparisons to this but you all get the point anyways

My God that Caterham is one of if not the most puke inducing F1 cars of all time.

Also this days it seems not very common a race director changes teams at all. Most of the time they (temp) leave the sport. Altough in the past years some teams used more directors then drivers (jaguar, BAR in all it's formes , toyota). Happy for Eric. Think he proved himself since he entered the RenaultF1 team and can do a good job at McLaren - starting by sending Sam home...

Chimneys, like they used to have in 2000 and 2001... I guess Matt Morris brought them back to life when he moved from Sauber to McLaren.

Totally forgot about that  . Thought they banned that since like 2008? But I guess the new rules get some new interpretations.

Red Bull have been forced to end there running for today due to a problems with the Renault energy recovery system.

Thats also Vettel's running for the week over, Ricciardo will do the final 2 days.

Can't wait to watch the first onboards in these new cars to see how's the driving style under the new rules (don't believe there will be any major difference but the smallest difference, I want to see) and above all, the engine sound from the drivers perspective.

Hopefully some team will gift us all with a pre-season test onboard, why not? Sauber did that in 2011, why not in 2014? Teams need to make fans see what's going on...c'mon this is business!

there's no 107% quali rule anymore, right?

If so, as a team, certainly near the back, I'd focus only on a car which has the reliability to complete 56 laps come Melbourne.

Speed comes as an added advantage at this stage.

107% rule was reintroduced in 2011, HRT fell outside it at Melbourne that year.

Renault has done 19 laps today.

By comparison, Mercedes is on 161 and Ferrari 70.

The McLaren looks to be in good shape. My favourite car so far!

The Ferrari and Button are on the mediums, Rosberg is on the normal Pirelli hard, and Bottas is on the special Jerez winter hard.

If true then Williams are working well.

They are ERS Lights. Tells the marshalls, teams, etc if the car is flat or not.
