Lotus's ongoing douchery is making them go from a team I liked to a "meh" team that I really don't give a hoot about. Force India now have a new member in my club.

You mean you didn't feel this way about the team in 2010 when they treated Heidfeld like shit and then bullied / dragged Fernandez through the courts for using a name he legally owned?

Anyway speaking of that team, Boullier "knows for a fact" that other teams will be missing from tests...

Oh Eddie

Reminds me of that 1999 season, that was so awesome.
I do remember Bridgestone's tyres were extremely hard that year compared to the very soft Pirellis this year. We did have some good racing back then iirc?

Everyone has their own fav era which they find nostalgic, pre 2000 is mine. The good looking Jordans, Arrows, Stewart Ford and Minardis. Was a really good fight to the season finale with the points system of the time. Luca Badoer crying over his failing car, just don't see that anymore.

Frentzen was only a good driver in 99 imo.

Going slightly off tangent here, but the good people on the F1 Rejects forum have discovered how that retirement could have felt so much worse.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Frentzen's career was quite odd, because on the surface it looks like he was overhyped and didn't deliver when it matters. But the hype was with good reason. At Sauber he was genuinely very fast. All things considered, his first season was very impressive, out-qualifying Wendlinger in all three races prior to Monaco and then ending De Cesaris and Lehto's careers, and he was equally quick in 1995 and 1996 where he made Boullion and Herbert look quite slow in comparison

The problem was that when he got a good car in 1997, Villeneuve got into his head. He proved how good he could be in 1999 - had he not retired in that race at the Nurburgring, he would have been right in the title battle going into the final two races. But then from 2000 Jordan fell back and he never really got another good opportunity to demonstrate his ability. Even in 2001, he stuck a Prost on the second row at Spa, and in 2002 he jumped in a Sauber at Indy and immediately got within two tenths of Heidfeld

The guy had such natural talent I do wonder if there was something going on at Williams in 1997, because it seems odd that he'd drop off so suddenly - either that or Jacques is an incredibly underrated driver

As for Badoer, that's heartbreaking. He didn't deserve what happened in 2009 - he was much better than his results show

The thing that you hear the most from people in F1 is that HHF never felt comfortable at Williams, He was never able to adjust to the way Williams did things & consequently was never able to get the most out of himself while there.

Can maybe be looked at in a similar way to Montoya, He never really seemed to get on with the McLaren way of doing things & ended up deciding Nascar would be more fun.

I think the problem when a lot of people look at Villeneuve now is that most seem to look at his Post-1997 results & decide that '97 was some sort of fluke because he had the best car & that in reality he wasn't really that good.

I've always been of the opinion that JV was very good, Much better than he generally gets credit for. I watched him in CART in 94/95 & his natural talent/speed was obvious from the start & the ease at which he jumped into F1 & was immediate exceptionally quick just backs me up on that opinion.

The problem JV had Post-97 is that the '98 Williams wasn't as good as the Ferrari/McLaren & while BAR looked like a promising idea for '99 (Designed by Adrian reynard, Massive budget, good people within the team) it ultimately didn't live upto the promise & he was left with mid-field cars for the next few years.

Was a shame that the year BAR finally came good (2004) was the year he was dropped in favor of Sato (Someone else who never did as well as he had the ability to).

In the late 90s when he ras racing regularly Badoer was actually a pretty good driver, Certainly much better than those 2 races in the Ferrari in 2009 suggest.

The 2009 Ferrari was a tricky car to drive (As Fisichella proved), Luca had never driven it until FP1 at Valencia, He hadn't done any significant miles in an F1 car for over a year & hadn't raced anything (To my knowledge) since he stepped out the Minardi at Suzuka in 1999.
Its no wonder he struggled as much as he did & I've never felt it fair to judge how good he was based off those 2 races.
