Two weeks after the 2 in T. O. (featuring the return of Vince Russo Brian Barnhart and the sole reason why he's fired in the first place), we're heading to the middle of nowhere, Ohio for a race in Mid-Ohio, the penultimate race of the natural road courses. 6 races to go, Helio Castroneves holds a 29-point lead over a surging Scott Dixon. Defending champion Ryan Hunter-Reay is sitting in third with what seems like plenty of ground to make up. Alas, anything can happen between now and Fontana.

Wait, is NBC showing the Indy Lights race live then continuing coverage right through the Indycars race?

If anyone's going to the race this weekend, about 10 iRacers will be there, and they'll be joined at some point late afternoon by Robin Miller and Derek Walker.

Full post:

Okay everyone, here's what's up:

Nothing is ever etched in stone due to the dynamic nature of race weekends, but we should be getting a visit from NBC SportsNet's Robin Miller and he is bringing IndyCar's President of Operations and Competition Derrick Walker with him.

Now, time to manage expectations. This interaction is, in all likelihood, not going to bring us the DW12 any faster. This is quite simply a rare opportunity to show Robin and Derek the incredible enthusiasm we have for both iRacing and its real-world counterpart, the IZOD IndyCar series. This opportunity came about as the result of a discussion about iRacing between Robin, my brother Todd, and me over lunch two weeks ago.

Robin was amazed by iRacing and as we browsed YouTube showing him some awesome iRacing content (particularly the Dallara Indy Car) he was amazed to hear iRacing now has 40,000 members. He inquired about the DW12 in iRacing and we told him this car was not available in the simulation yet.

I told him about 15 of us iRacers were gathering for the Mid-Ohio race weekend and his immediate reaction was to bring Derrick Walker out to meet us, seeing this as a marketing opportunity for the IZOD IndyCar Series. Granted, Robin does not know the inner workings of iRacing's partner relationships with the series or engine and chassis manufacturers. But Derrick's willingness to come out and meet us (re-confirmed in-person with Robin Miller earlier today) can certainly have a truly positive effect for all of us.

And that's where we all come in.

Let's use this opportunity to show NBC SportsNet and the IZOD IndyCar Series how enthusiastic we are about the product, both in the real and virtual worlds. Let's get a dialog and a relationship started which will ultimately strengthen the bond between iRacing and the IZOD IndyCar Series. Let's be great race fans and goodwill ambassadors for our hobby of sim racing. Let's do all the right things, come together and have a great time, and keep our fingers crossed that this can ultimately help us, even in some small way, bring that DW12 maybe just a little bit sooner.

Disclaimer: I have no "insider" knowledge about the development timetable for the DW12 in iRacing so please don't inquire. From an observer's position like everyone else's, it's clear iRacing has a LOT of cars and tracks to develop and finite resources to bring to bear on those efforts. I'm sure the priority list is not taken lightly at iRacing headquarters, and I'll leave addressal of those issues to the iRacing Staff who are, as always, welcome to chime in.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Turn one has been busy today: Kimball (big wreck this morning), Power (big spin this morning), and Vautier (rough off in Q2).

Power was more lucky he didn't do a V8 Supercar at Philip Island situation and end up running through the gravel and ending up broadside on the backstraight after cutting out half the track :8:

I think I'd rather flip through a gravel trap than end up being t-boned at top speed.....

From what I saw of the Lights race when Brian switched between it and the NASCAR race during ads, it looked suprisingly good for a low car count...

Am I the only one surprised they didn't introduce power steering already with the new car?

Or dropped it with the new car as they brought it in before to benefit Danica.
