Neither did I, but driver side impacts of that magnitude in GT or touring cars are always extremely dangerous and worrying.

You just wonder why they didn't have more protection for a car going off there.

Very sad to hear the death of Simonsen.

Aston Martin, as the British car, has driver on the right?

About what Gavin said, it's difficult to believe because car ended on the side of the track. Had it hit tree, I think it would have ended behind the barrier as well.

You can see on the onboards where there is a brand new piece of Armco lining up by the trees. It is where Simonsen was mortally wounded.

Especially since it's basically impossible for a car to bounce back on track from there after hitting a tire barrier.

Always wondered why they don't have tires in front of that wall. Not like it would impede the racing groove because the only way you'll get there is if you have an off.

What a shame.

They need to put a Tecpro barrier there (And in some other spots) for next year, There apparently much safer than a tyre wall in places with limited run-off.

Also I think they need to look at the armco, Especially if the suggestion the car hit a tree behind the barrier proves correct. There's been far too much barrier damage this year, Surely there's some way to help prevent that?

Tyres would act as a catapult. What I don't understand is why that barrier is so far back. But then again this is racing and while I'm not trying to be insensitive at this difficult time, it is all too easy to overthink and point out the what seems overly obvious when it comes to circuit safety.

because it's where the track joins the public road.
