If there going to continue with DRS then I really feel they should look at if its really needed at every race. Today was just stupid with how easy DRS made things (Even Brundle who often defends it was critical of it today) & I really feel this is one track where its not really needed.

This is the 3rd season we have it & they really should have it figured out better than this by now, The fact they haven't perhaps shows that they never will get it right.

As much as I'm tired of your constant bringing it up after every single damn race, even I agree today I agree the DRS was too much on the long straight.

It was fine on the start/finish straight and it's just a shame the short straight from turn 3 to 5 has that kink in it otherwise that would be a good place for it too, or perhaps the short straight before the banked corner onto the long straight would be another good place for it to set up some passing onto the main straight....

I was looking back on the past races and the backstraight is so long you were getting DRS-esque "drive past in a straight line before braking" overtakes even BEFORE DRS was invented so there was really no need to add DRS there when it was already too easy due to the slipstream.
DRS is a good concept just badly utilised today.
I'm sure we'll be praising it again next week in Bahrain, its straights seem to be the perfect length for DRS without taking the piss too much.

As for the race, good start with a race's worth of action in 20 laps, shit middle as it seemed like everyone was just managing what they had, them amazing finish with Vettel. If it wasn't for his pitstop blunder by a second or two we could've had a pass coming into the final corner....what is this, NASCAR? :p

Some great overtakes too, liked Alonso passing people in the corner before the straight and Hamilton around the outside on Button is an underrated move, one of the overtakes of the year so far imo.

at first I actually blamed Kimi himself. Not so sure anymore as he had wheels alongside the McLaren. Still, a respectable performance in the end by both drivers.

GOOD. RBR have screwed this guy for so long now.... I mean, let's not forget, he was at JAGUAR, shows how long he's been there.

Yes, I agree 100%. I mean how dare Red Bull screw Mark over by giving him a car capable of winning for the past 4 seasons, to which he's challenged for the title two of those seasons and taken multiple wins.

Yeah, he's got a right to feel hard done by.

Red Bull has been given a fine of 5,000 euros (£4,262) for releasing Mark Webber's car in an unsafe manner during this afternoon's Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai.

Webber pitted on Lap 15 after colliding with Jean-Éric Vergne, receiving a new front wing and a fresh set of tyres. On the next lap the Australian noticed an issue at the back of his car before the right-rear wheel detached itself on the back straight.

Webber's premature retirement came just 24 hours after his car stopped out on-track at the same area of the circuit in qualifying, with the stewards later excluding him from the session for being unable to supply the required one litre of fuel for sampling.

Why even bother?

Why bother giving a fine of 5000€ to a company worth billions? Also, weren't Renault suspended for one race for a similar incident back in 2009?

Thanks for the clarification, I agree with you. When I saw the fine I thought it was small compared to other similar instances in the past.

A bit different to the fine and suspended ban they slapped on Alonso in 2009 when his wheel came off in Hungary... :o

The fine is now standard for this offence.

Renault's suspension was a gross overreaction to what had happened the day and week before. Like the retarded tyre chicane at Barcelona.

The reaction in Hungary was emotionally driven, rather than rationally. That said there has been far sterner fines for the same transgression since 2009.

But a fine of 5000€ isn't going to do anything to stop this to happen. It just seems silly to me.

It doesn't solve the problem, because teams will do it again unless you fine them a huge amount or deduct them WCC points. There needs to be some sort of mechanism that stops loose wheels from detaching completely - Gary Anderson talked about it on the BBC forum and suggested that a previously abandoned safety system should be reintroduced.

Racing incident - Perez moved over but ultimately Kimi has been around a few years and could have seen a narrowing gap and some grass coming and lifted off. Heroic job to save the car and get it stopped for the corner whilst doing most of his braking on the grass ...
