Remember when everyone tried to be clever in 2012 by saving tyres, only for the pole position man to run away with it? Yeah...

My thoughts exactly....Anything can happen the further down the grid you are....Se Alonso at Japan last year.

Could be an interesting start to the race, Red Bull not having a good day either.
Well done to Ricciardo as well.

because, although they will have to pit early, they will get this tyre out of the way.

The system is clearly broken when some cars don't even attempt to go for pole position is it not....

Great... Set the alarm clock one hour late and I lost what looks like a dramatic qualifying session :(

if u save it for the end the fuel load will be significantly diminished and less destructive on the tires. full fuel on used, quickly degrading tires means they probably wont last more than 1 lap before falling off the car at the beginning of the race

It happened last year as well but the races made up for it. It's not ideal but if we end up with an exciting race...

slightly different then in that Webber had massive amounts of tyres available to him while the front runners did not. Now everyone pretty much plays the same game.

Still, it's nice to see such a front-contender at the back. Makes for an interesting race ahead.

Not going to happen now, because all the top drivers have three new sets of the prime tyres available. And the softs simple not working.

if Webber starts last, I would let him start from the pitbox on the softs and let him stop on the first lap for medium tyres. It would allow a massive amount of free track for him to push straight away, while the guys in front will be low on pace. Could prove quite handy actually.

A Safety Car in the 1st lap will help then.

Webber's used to fighting through the pack, usually by the time his car leaves the grid markings he's down the field, no matter where he starts...

I wonder if anyone is going to do a Vettel Monza 2010 and leave their soft tyre stint until the penultimate lap or somewhere like that? :?

Why would they do that? The tyre is ovbiously usable for at least 6-7 laps, and with lighter fuel load, it would be stupid not to use the softer tyre for at least 6 laps since it is the faster tyre

Yeah, I don't think any of the top few drivers are likely to destroy them ala sutil if they run them last.
It's nice to see mixed strategy this weekend.
I assume vettel and the rest who ran the medium q3 have fresh sets of the soft. Can anyone confirm that?

This is really bad and shows once more this new system is not what F1 should have. I really would love to see the qualifying tyres back, won't waste your race tyres and provides a much more exciting battle for the pole position, back when F1 had for the last time the qualifying tyres in 1991, there was 2 qualifying sessions, friday and saturday and 2 sets of tyres for each day, right now with just the saturday qualifying session, they could have 4 sets of qualifying tyres for the session, that would be the best system.
