* - Jack Sears Trophy entry

Hold on to your hats, folks. The new BTCC season is nearly upon us! We've got more cars than you can shake a stick at, with a capacity entry of 32. 28 of them should be at Brands next weekend, which means we'll have the biggest entry for the first round of the season since 2001!

New for this year is the Jack Sears Trophy, named after the series' first champion, for drivers of Super 2000 cars. This'll make the battles at the back of the field even more intense than usual, with the driver earning the most wins in that class being handed the trophy at the end of the season by none-other than the man himself.

The action will be just as hot at the front as the NGTC cars will have more power, more speed and a new soft tyre to spice things up. As if they need any more craziness...

Will Gordon Shedden defend his title, or will his team-mate, Matt Neal, take it back from him? Jason Plato will also be hungry for a third title to add to his impressive CV. We mustn't forget about Colin Turkington who's making his first appearance in the series since 2009, but after a three year break and with an un-proven car, it could be a tough ask. And what about Mat Jackson? He was on fire last year in the new Focus and will be very competitive. Could he win his first crown?

In the support package we've got the full-time return of Formula Ford, last on the package in 2003, and all of last year's series staying on with bigger and more competitive fields, so expect many championships to go down to the wire.

It's shaping up to be a cracking year. Let's go racing!

Hoorahhh!

I was going to go to this, but it gets so bloody busy there during the BTCC weekend. And I hate the fence inside Druids, which is where I always stood.

Clios are up to 23 for this weekend. FFord should have 18, Porsche Supercar will have 16, Ginettas should have 15-18 and Juniors should have 14. These grids may go up this week to as we always see a few drivers enter at the last minute.

The cold weather we're having is likely to remain this weekend. It might be a chilly one

Plato will win all three races and TBK will explode with rage.

There.

I'm thinking worst case scenario. If that doesn't happen, everything is better. Think negatively and everything seems cool :p

RWD cars will win because it will be too cold for the FWD cars to warm their rear tyres and they will all spin off on the first lap.

Phil1993 needs a custom title. Instead of Honorary Member, it should be "Prediction-Queen", "BANNED (from making predictions)" or "I Make Bad Choices". Just a suggestion.

I know you'll all be sad but it looks like this one may be a record one for me. I finish work at 8 that morning and I'm back in work 10 that night.

Well we've already had the French Plato win the opening WTCC races so we don't need such a shitty start to the BTCC please!

Bet he'll sneak one in though, and he won't have learnt from his issues at paddock last year and will try the same thing again.

Really looking forward to it though!

And exactly HOW was 2001 a big entry? The first race was BTCC only and it had about 8 cars in it!
:p

Don't worry there'll be plenty of time to sleep during the Porsche races....
