Except these stupid Garage 56 cars. :p

Formula E seems too early. The technology isn't mature enough yet. I'm not sold on electric racing cars anyway but everything we see talks about extreme limitations of these cars. The last time this was announced they talked about having to fully charge the cars and having drivers swap entire cars at pit stops. That's...a tad silly.

Totally agree ellis. There are a few aspects of this series that makes it look like a bit of a joke (like swapping cars mid-race), but the overall concept seems interesting.

Yes especially this year's car!

Will discuss it in the forthcoming Le Mans thread, can't wait!

There were actual plans of Formula E coming to Birmingham but it didn't happen so I am keen to go to London to sample street racing, you can't miss an opportunity to witness street racing in this country!

I agree that the technology isn't mature enough for a grand prix style format, or even a 45 minute race. This series should think about doing heat races or maybe even one on one races. Because that's a much better format for this type of racing.

WAT......discuss this topic at great length please.

Also the argument they're banding about is the tech might not be ready but until they do something like this, it never will be either.
It needs a push and there's nothing like racing to push technology along.

That's what they're saying anyway.

Also a little sad that this Indycar bumper idea is catching on. We don't need any more open wheel series going down that route or before too long its goodbye open wheel... :o

It's not that they're quiet, it's just that they're meh. It's like the Audi diesel LMPs. They sound pretty cool because they're different. But if you had a whole grid of them then it'd suck. Same with these. Kinda cool, but a whole grid of them loses the appeal.

I think this has potential. All the other series (A1, etc) were never mentioned in local news here. Now when such a series comes to the middle of a big city, with the idea of 'the future of motorracing', it will attract the news, it will have at least one topic in the news, in papers or whatever media is available.

It will be important to capitalize on that moment regarding funds and sponsorship. I think big 'green' electricity companies might be very interested in sponsorship.

About the noise... well, we will have to get used to it?

Well, good for that guy trying to drum up support (I probably see him every day as I head to the radio station too....)

However until there's more quotes from Councillors then this is just a guy trying to put the feelers out and see if anything hits....

I really liked the looks of that car.

It resembles a mix of Brabham BT52 + Jordan 197 + IndyCar DW Dallara. You mix all these three and you get Formula E car.

Too bad that the "no sound" factor may result in a serious business failure....Maybe not a big issue for tv but for a live event with spectators in loco, it has everything to become an embarrassing thing. Can you guys imagine the constraint it may cause at people watching the event at the place? I've already done that "mental exercise" and I can imagine it's gonna be shameful.

Even if it emitts some noise (eletric or not), if it's not loud enough, If it's not a live 'experience' (I mean, highly audio-visual) If you know what I mean, then...I'm so sorry for this series, it's gonna fail after the very first race. I'm so curious to see what the organizers are planning to overcome that problem.

To make a comparison, it's like going to a concert without audio!

Bit of a surprise as Andretti Autosport will run cars in Formula E.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Surely this cannot be true...

Quote:
Performance wise, the pure-electric Formula E racecars are pretty quick. Allegedly, 0-96 km/h takes only three seconds. But they won’t race for long periods of time. After 20 to 25 laps, the driver has to pit his car, hop out, and then jump into a second, fully charged Formula E car to finish the race. Apparently, the technology to swap batteries safely in the pits won’t be ready for the inaugural 2014 season.
