I should mention that I'm not judging the car on this at all, and I'm looking forward to how it performs on other tracks. But I'm not going to deny that I'm a big fan of the RP racing we've had in the last couple of years and I'm pretty disappointed with how this week has panned out.

THIS

It's not just a bad race when you're talking Speedweeks, it's the entire week that feels like a let down.

A week we've all held as sacred for so long....SPEED WEEKS DAMMIT

What next, the holy sanctimony that is DEGA is ruined? :(

plz prey :(

Yup, worst Speedweeks imagineable, I think.

All Cup races have been very, very lame.
The Battle of the Beach races were pathetic
The truck race ended with a huge anti-climax
and the Nationwide race ended with a huge disaster.

Only way this could have been worse was if someone had died.

This thread deserves an induction into the SoS more than any.

I'm sorry, but that's just wrong. I know it doesn't meant much, but just quickly looking at the 2012 speedweeks rate thread, you gave a lower score than a lot of people in that thread. I think some selective reading might be going on here.

What does my opinion of last year's speedweeks have to do with the statement that speedweeks is generally complained about every year? I didn't say no one's allowed to be disappointed, or that I've always been thrilled by it. Nothing to do with that. But there's a tendency here to call everything new or recent shit and look back on what you previously called shit with rose-tinted glasses.

I agree with a previous post that it seems a bit silly to put the biggest event in NASCAR at the start of the year, because while hype and expectations are ludicrously high, the actual racing is usually at the mercy of an untested rules package.

Regardless on how the performance of the Gen6 will be on the rest of the tracks, we took a huge step back on the superspeedway package. I'm sure they will spin it as the greatest show ever, but i found it rather boring. The finish proved it too. There is much room for improvement here, single file with no positions changes for 90% of the race cannot be the answer.

I honestly didn't see much difference between the racing today and the racing pre-COT. The finish sucked because no one close enough to Jimmie made a move, not because of the car in my opinion.

That was my post, so atleast we agree on something. :p My point is that it's a bit hypocritical to say everyone's always so negative about it, when you were actually more critical than a lot of people last year.

At the end of the day, this is a sport we're all very passionate about. This is one of the biggest races of the year, and if it doesn't live up to expectations (expectations that nascar have created) then people are going to get upset. To expect people not to bitch and moan about the kind of racing we saw today is completely unrealistic.

If Greg Biffle wasn't Greg Biffle the finish probably would have been better.

How long before Roush puts Bayne in the #16 and Wonderboy in the #21?

this car supposedly has a lighter back-end. because daytona is a little tighter than dega, handling on the bottom line seems to be an issue. you have to have an entire row of good handling cars to hold it down there and advance the bottom line, and since they all were on worn tires nobody wanted to step out of line. they were too scared that no one would go with 'em and then lose 10 - 15 spots.

hopefully, with handling being less of an issue at dega the pack racing should be more sustainable. that said, it will still also include pre-COT single file runs for a majority of the race - unless of course they line up the bumpers to bring back the tandem racing.

plate races aside, i still have high hopes for the new car at the remaining tracks

IMO it was an important step forward. It's more of a legit race now instead of a semi-organized stunt/crapshoot. The whole 'leader is a sitting' duck is actually kinda fucked up in a way. Why should the person who's driven to the front be in a bad position? Today, only fast cars with decent drivers led under green. And if you were good enough, you could actually hold the lead. Remember when guys like Marlin, Earnhardt, and Jarrett could do that shit? That was just fine. It should be a challenge to pass the leader, and it showed today. Johnson spent several laps working the bottom and fell back a little at times during that run before he got the lead.

I'm not going to sit here and lie. A lot of he CoT stuff at the plate tracks was very captivating, but in my opinion today's race was more satisfying as a proper competition. I understand why a lot of people are disappointed but I prefer the more toned down, performance-reliant package.

People are disappointed Chris because there wasn't a 43 car pack wrecking for the finish.

I was dissapointed because I didn't get to see side by side racing in the last 10 laps. It could have happened though.

The Oscars are more exciting than the Daytona 500.

I guess having Seth MacFarlane helps.
