There's always room for improvement but I do think it's important to note that the fence actually held up extremely well for the impact it took. The fact that it held the engine and left front within a couple feet of the impact was really impressive to be honest. It sucks badly that people are hurt, but stopping that engine definitely prevented a LOT more grief.

The point I was trying to make was less to do with patient information confidentiality (but that is relevant also) but more to do with Nascar or Daytona making statements which could be construed to proving negligence with regards to safety of people at the event.

I highly doubt it. It usually says on the tickets somewhere that you are subject to injury and other stuff. By entering the facilities you know the risks yada yada yada. HAVE FUN!

I mean you can attempt to sue for anything but they will just be wasting there money.

Now if someone dies, that probably could change everything.

Allan McNish's crash at Donington in 1990 comes to mind.

Very thankful that the engine stopped where it did.

Well, I recorded the race while I was at work and watch the whole thing through but the recording cut short during the red flag. I had to go online to find out what had happened. My excitement from wanting to see the finish turned to shock and awe when I saw the pictures of Larson's car. I still wanted to see the finish, I didn't know fans had been injured yet. I wanted to know who won and that everybody involved in the wreck was OK.

The instant I saw the engine block laying on the inside of the fence I closed the window and immediately went to SPEED channel to watch the coverage and news updates. I've always known even spectating races can be risky. Nobody expects to go to a race and face the risk of being killed. I still intend to go to the race tomorrow, but the whole experience will be in a new perspective for me. All that matters now is the well being of those hurt today.

When you analyze the tone and content of the conference basically they said...

- They did everything correctly
- Fans were immediately attended to
- The scene was secured and quickly
- They will review the property in an attemptto find areas of gain

The main problem I see here is the crossover gate. Fence or wall, it's the achilles heel of any protective barrier (ask Mike Harmon, Michael Waltrip, etc.), and I'm not sure how you can truly fix that.

I agree, the fact that the fencing kept those huge pieces of metal from flying into the stands and only allowed the smaller parts to get through is a good indication that they are designed well, especially when you consider that Larson probably hit the weakest part of the fence where the crossover gate was. Looking at the pictures, the front of his car seemed to hit one of the poles directly, which explains why the engine was ripped out of the car. It was pretty similar to Mike Harmon's wreck at Bristol in that sense, except Larson was flying through the air at about twice the speed.

Also, Jeff Gluck reported that Larson has chosen not to participate in a sprint car race that he was supposed to be in tonight. Hopefully this doesn't affect him too badly emotionally, especially since he could've done nothing to avoid it.

It doesn't necessarily mean anything. They can print what they want on tickets, if the law says otherwise, they will be held responsible no matter what. I don't know American law very well, but usually law says that writing something on a ticket or on some billboard doesn't mean anything. Kinda like hotels saying that if somebody steals stuff in your room it's not their fault, that's false.

Kenny Brack's accident back in the day was also much worse due to hitting a crossover gate... The added strength of the fence posts at the gates causes more damage to the car, but perhaps that strength kept the motor and one wheel assembly from reaching the crowd.

Probably more physical reasons - now that the adrenaline has drained he'll really be starting to feel that one - it was a huge impact with the fence post. He'll be hurtin' in the morning.

So how long, if ever until you all think we see the other many angles of this crash?

Wow.. You can see the tire clearly going through and not over the fence as they have been trying to say. You also see some debris making up into the second tier of the stands. Looks small but I imagine it was a substantial chunk of metal.

Not that it's really a priority right now but, depending on the severity of the injuries, perhaps tomorrow in the 500 build up.

Never said it was a priority, just wondering as I am sure many others are as well. That 1st angle before it switched will be telling of what debris did what damage.

I'm curious to see the view that was set up next to that crossover gate.
