Regarding the Battle At The Beach, NascarHomeTracks.com will be live video streaming all practices and heat races for the next two days. SPEED will cover the feature races on TV.

I always go to http://www.raceweather.net/ for that info.

Looks pretty good for the week, but I wouldn't rely on the Saturday/Sunday information too much just yet. Six days is plenty of time for that forecast to change, particularly given that area's somewhat erratic weather.

Reading through this thread, I'm very much with RtN. You're flat out around the lap. Of course the team with the best engine is going to be the one challenging for pole. I believe Travis Kvapil and David Gilliland both have restrictor plate pole positions. Did they get any credit? Nope. I've been around Daytona as a passenger. For a non racing driver, the speed and the banking were both thrilling and pretty scary. The driver was going around so effortlessly though.

Yes, she beat the opposition she was up against, but when has anyone given the slightest toss about starting position at Daytona or Dega? If she races well, and gets a top 5 finish, I'll eat my words. No doubt she'll be over correcting into the nearest barrier instead. Apologies if this sounds sexist. It isn't. I'm fed up of a mediocre (at best) driver being given endless hype and praise. Johanna long is far more deserving of the ride.

Problem is that the Daytona 500 is unfortunately NASCAR's biggest race and the one the general public knows about the most. So it's a great publicity opportunity and one that is achieved the easiest since a monkey can sit on the pole at Daytona if in the right car.

Video stream should hopefully be starting up soon at http://hometracks.nascar.com, they're having technical delays at the moment.

EDIT: Now working

Isn't New Smyrna Speedway like, very close to Daytona?

Yep, and they ran there this weekend.

Just noticed the storm drains towards the inside wall (the "frontstretch"), and it appears to be right on the racing line. Wonder if it'll give the drivers any difficulty.

Daytona can't make money if the races are at New Smyrna.

The car counts are terrible for what was supposed to be a marquee event. The mod teams don't have the cash, the K&N teams aren't interested and the latemodel rules give the dinosaur-spec LMSC cars the advantage.

Last I saw the car count for the mod race is pretty stout. I don't think anyone was expecting 50 mods 34 or so is perfect.

Probably talking about the layout. If so...I totally agree.

The layout reminds me of a smaller Martinsville with the tight corners and long-ish straightaways. I'm expecting some beating and banging this week. All three fields look very competitive.
