They'd certainly have scored points in 1995 had they carried on. Not bad considering the basic design was 3 or 4 years old (first as the BMW and then as the Bravo)

Talking of scoring points, I'm working on converting all the results to the current points system (also did it with the 10-8-6 system and finished just before they got rid of it - ha). The last couple of seasons has had the lowest number of drivers finishing in the top 10 for decades. It's quite unprecedented how bad Caterham and Marussia are - even Super Aguri managed to get 1 top 10 in their first season and they started off with a four year old car. It's surprising how many points Minardi were getting late on:

18 in 2005 (only Indy)
7 in 2004
3 in 2003
22 in 2002
5 in 2001
16 in 2000
27 in 1999
20 in 1998

In other words they scored the same or more points than Williams did in 2011/13 in 7 of their last 8 seasons. That's both a comment on 1) how reliable cars have become, 2) how bloody good a job Minardi did on such a small budget, and 3) how little progress the 2010 generation of teams have made

For the record, Simtek would've scored 3 in 1994 and 2 and 1995

Hardly an issue. He isn't even worried about it.

Hey, thanks very much for that Phil!

Finally I read how the "turbo's heat harvesting" works in more detail. And there are other very interesting stuff there as well.

I would like to capture the video in that page but downloadhelper doesn't work on BBC. Can somebody(Stef or Echti, I think you guys can) capture it and post it on youtube or etc, please?

Anyone got a copy of the FIA season review? I mean the Gala review.

The Gala isn't until tomorrow (Friday night, Paris).

Lewis Hamilton apparently got his winning trophies back from Mclaren.

Sky is under the impression that Ron Dennis (and perhaps Chinese investors) are looking at buying Mansour Ojjeh's 25% stake in McLaren. Ojjeh is recovering from a double lung transplant and supposedly keen to sell is share in the team - perhaps a return for Ron as Whitmarsh is close to Ojjeh...

If Ron wanted to oust Whitmarsh wouldn't he just fire him?

Is Ron actually allowed to take Martin's position after the spy scandal in 2007? I though the had to leave an operative position. I'd love to have him back.

He was still in charge in 2008. He wanted to leave on a high with a world title.

I don't think that's true. What I believe is that his departure, or how you call it, was already planned. Whitmarsh was appointed after the 2008 season.

Dennis wanted to focus on McLaren's road cars but also wanted to leave with a world title. This didn't happen in 2007 so he stayed in 2008, which ofcourse was won by Lewis.

Ron Dennis stepped down as team principal after Lewis won the WDC but kept a role in the F1 team until April 2009 when he stepped away from the F1 team completely just after Lie-Gate.

Martin Whitmarsh gets a lot of flack for McLaren's problems, Yet don't forget that when Ron Dennis was team principal the team went through similar problems for a long time (2001-2007).

Whitmarsh was announced as team principal on 1st March 2009 but Ron was still present at races. It was only on 16th April that he stepped back entirely, which just happened to be only a couple of weeks before McLaren were due in front of the WMSC. There was a lot of talk at the time (which Ron denied) that Mosley had basically asked him to leave or else McLaren would be banned, to the point where it was referenced by Autosport: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74502

Another article suggesting this was the case: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motors ... rture.html

It was always in my memory that he stepped down entirely after the WDC in '08, but this clears things up.

And as if by no coincidence, once Mosley was replaced by Todt as FIA head then Dennis once again started reappearing at races.
