1958 went well...

The Morroccan media talked about the king's presence in Abu Dhabi but didn't really speculate about that meaning anything regarding a GP venue, so I doubt there's any progress towards a GP.
Despite the optimistic tone of this article (I'm pleased to see the destination is popular and attractive), there are still several social concerns from the population at the moment. The F1 pill might be harder to swallow than was the WTCC, which came with a local driver and much less investments needed.

In any case, rather than Marrakech, I secretly wish they would go back to the Casablanca circuit, where the 1957/58 seaside startline has changed a lot since then and is almost Long Beach material now:

Do we actually rate Joe Saward in here?

All I see on other forums is long threads bitching about him.

I know he acted like a jerk on the whole Radio Le Mans breaking the Webber story issue but the amount of anger towards him elsewhere seems unwarranted.

*shrug*
It's hard to get angry about internet writers I'll likely never meet, tbh :p

If they want a race in Africa, race in South Africa. The interest in motor racing there is pretty good.

Why would you want to destroy a national reserve by putting concrete and tarmac in the middle of it?

raise the cars, install knobby tyres and mark the "track" with orange cones.

Finnish media MTV Sport has received information from reliable source that Kovalainen is going to replace Räikkönen for remaining two races. There's no words like "rumored" or "might" in the story.

give false hopes to young and sometimes talented drivers. sad but true

why don't they create something like finantial fair play to the teams along with a budget cap and a bit more testing. something at least reasonable

I feel for Valsechhi. Might not be WDC material, but I think he's a good driver who at least needs a chance.

F1 teams can't agree on anything. Hell, last year they couldn't agree where to host the young driver test and had it in 3 separate locations.

Budget cap? Firstly, it would only affect the top four teams. If it was significantly lower, the top teams would protest. Then how do you police it? Does funding a young driver system count? What about the engines. How do you regulate if Mercedes supplant it with their automotive side?

Also, a budget cap + more testing is sort of an antithesis.

that's the point of budget cap, bring more equality among the teams, they caused the problem by raising the costs, so they're able to find a way to solve it

about testing, why not promote the sessions as promotional events, find sponsors, sell tickets, get a broadcast or something, could help a bit

these things aren't easy to solve, but they don't even show up with common sense

I know what you mean, but you have 11 different groups all trying to get their best interests.

A budget cap wouldn't bring equality unless it was in the region of $50-80m, which is not going to happen.

Testing isn't run by FIA though so the teams can't get a share of any revenue.

The teams would find ways around the budget cap. Would simulator work count towards it?
