NASCAR driver Parker Kligermann wrote an interesting article about track design. He's apparently not a fan of George Tilke.

There is some interesting stories about how Mosport was designed and how Eau Rouge came to be.

People who work at circuits can be overzealous in carrying out their instructions. At Silverstone on Saturday there was no pedestrian access beyond Stowe so Caterham had to call a car for me, even when I could easily have walked to The Wing. Monza's excuse of 'you can't walk this way, there's more cars today' was hilarious considering that the tunnel under the track has no pedestrian path.

Exactly (regarding beds). Could save £££ per race.

Anyone given a position of power over others where they can't really be questioned, not just at racing circuits, can be like this. No matter how ridiculous their reasoning, you can't really go against their decision and not be punished (by them, immediately, and potentially others later) for it.

Spa LMS 1000KM in 2011, about 30 minutes before the start: a single security-devil (that's standard at Spa) kept the gate to the grandstand at start-finish closed. Nearly got physically harassed (also got an amazing verbal throwback: "Go to Zolder then!") for questioning the logic in that, and soon about 30 other people were standing there, wondering the same thing.

10 minutes before the start one of the officials stops on the track and yells "why the hell is that gate still closed".

Re: entry costs, there is always someone dumb enough to pay it though (or someone that considers it good value).

Last time I officially went to a GP was the 86 one at Brands, and even then we had to save up for months to afford it (my best entry was Silverstone sometime in the 90's when I went in, in the back of a transit, crouching inside a stack of tyres )

I thought Alonso had a real brilliant season in 2010 (except Ferrari's call in Abu Dhabi and Alonso's inability to pass). 2011 also was very good, despite the car. 2012 I agree he lost motivation once his car wasn't up against the others anymore. 2013 I guess is the same story. But he still humiliated Massa in any way possible (Massa hasn't finished any race in front of Alonso this season!!!).

Malaysia does not count then?

I didn't count races were one of them retired.

Fair enough. Alonso would have finished ahead of Massa anyway had he finished.

What was actually the last time that Massa did finish ahead of Alonso?

surely there must be computer designs out there giving us a glimpse of the look of the 2014 cars?

good to see the front wing got narrower. Now they need to broaden the rear wing and bring it down too.

basically we need the models last used in 2008 with a ban on all the possible winglets.

iirc they widened the front wings to get them out of the dirty air coming off the rear wings (why they slimmed them down too), that didn't work to aid overtaking, so they invented DRS.

This will help Alonso a lot, as he often has trouble relating to where his front wing is, since he sits in the car like an old granny ;)

Continuously moans like one as well.

"Kids these days, never happy with three world championships. They always want more. In my day we'd score 1571 and yet only get two world titles!"

Why don't you try mounting the suspension upside-down again?

To show how meaningless it is to compare the total points record from drivers/teams, I just noticed that RBR now has a total of 2309.5 points whilst Williams has 2751. So if they dominate next year they'll probably overtake them.
