Scotty, I think we agree on something. He shouldn't be getting promoted to a better seat.

Maldonado denies talks to replace Raikkonen at Lotus

Jun.28 (GMM) As Kimi Raikkonen moves closer to filling Mark Webber's spot at Red Bull next year, Pastor Maldonado has denied talking to Lotus to replace the Finn.
It has been suggested Venezuelan Maldonado, with his 2012 Barcelona-winning speed and his millions in PDVSA backing, might be a good choice as Lotus faces the possibility of replacing Raikkonen.
But "Regarding the rumours," the 28-year-old told Spanish newspaper Marca at Silverstone, "I am 100 per cent focused on Williams.
"To this day I have not spoken to any team, this is true and I hope to be here next season. I say that because it depends not only on me but on other factors.
"Let's see what the future brings," Maldonado added.
"I see the rumours every day but it's hard to imagine something happening. Clearly I'm not happy with the performance this season, I will not hide that and we need to solve our problems.
"But I believe that we have a great potential in the team and we cannot stay where we are.
"We have all the tools to fight for the championship, so we're not going to give up," he added.

Does the pdvsa funding not stay with Williams? I thought the contract tied them into Williams.

A dream if you can't get any better than reserve driver spot.

Not 2nd but 3rd in Canada.

Not that it really makes a difference, they definitely had a big gain since then.

I doubt any team can have enough spare parts to handle that...

As somebody who, sometimes(not the bizarre and totally nonsensical ones), believes particular conspiracy theories seems plausible, I once heard somebody claiming this probably had some "big shot"(like Bernie etc....) arranging the whole thing behind the scenes and Mercedes would always get away with it since this was exactly the plan in order to spice up the "F1 show", and I wouldn't doubt that to be the case as well.

F1, as many if not all other sports where there is considerable amount of money involved, is more about business than anything. Justice, fair play are essential values that characterize sport but these moral values are not part of business' modus operandi

Mercedes is a top brand and car manufacturer which it's presence is very important, commercially, for F1. Plus, they have the most popular driver now and giving them an advantage to get closer to the contenders is VERY good, commercially, for F1

Hamilton being lapped in Barcelona was something that must have took out the interest of many "fans"(as you can argue those are not real fans but rather just fanboys) in F1, this year. But after that disaster of a race for him, his car was good enough to fight for podiums in all other following tracks. A lot of those fans must be very excited about F1 once again by now......

The YDT is scrapped and race drivers can participate instead if the teams choose so. Mercedes will not be present.
