Mercedes suggested punishments, such as a reprimand or exclusion from the young drivers test.

That's not a confident approach.

I hope they get races ban and/or WCC and maybe even WDC points totally removed and big fines.

This was one of the most blatant cases of cheating F1 ever saw

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

It seems then that Mercedes's case hinges on 'undertaken by', but when your lawyer suggests possible sanctions that's never good.

It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, happens with regards to Ferrari. There's something more to that case than meets the eye.

---

And in something completely unrelated, if you're a Red Bull fan they'll be giving away prizes on Twitter tomorrow.

Having heard all the facts, its going to be fascinating tomorrow to see what verdict the FIA will give... the repercussions of which could be huge...

If this was indeed one of the most blatant cases of cheating F1 ever saw then Mercedes and the management figures wouldn't have seeked guidance from the FIA in the first place. They would have just gone and tested.

Senna at Suzuka in 1990
Schumi at Jerez in 1997 or Monaco 2006
The normally aspirated teams in 1982 using water cooled brakes

Those are examples of blatant cases of cheating. This case is just red tape and mis-guided interpretation of various communications.

There is no doubt to me that Mercedes will be (and should be) penalised. 2013 cars cannot be used. However the question is who or how it was decided to use the 2013 car, because that decision lead to the consequences that followed. That point will decide the eventual size of the penalty

LOL at the Indian track public denial of rumours that they are losing their race.

You know, all those rumours none of us had heard of until they issued their denial.

Good PR work, guys.

Anyway, sorry this isn't Testgate related. F1 action in court bores me, call me when they're creating headlines at a racetrack again plz

Not much of a penalty really.

That engine sounds much better than I thought. Should be great in the flesh next year :)

Also Mercedes are so damn lucky right now. Except a Red Bull appeal.

Let's not forget that in 2007 McLaren were originally let off from the charges that were brought against them, then Ferrari appealed and we all know what happened next.

What I'm saying is, that if that Mercedes penalty is correct then I don't expect we've seen / heard the last of this.

Am I the only one who thinks that this whole situation has been caused more by the FIA's shitty rule writing than anything else? Time and time again they write rules with massive gaping loopholes and then wonder why teams try to exploit them.

Pretty much.

Also time and time again, when asked for clarification, they are dramatically vague and unhelpful. Has happened before, will happen again.

double diffusers

Incorrect here.

Ross Brawn approached all the teams in 2008 and made it clear there was a loophole in the 2009 regulations around double diffusers and that they should all work together along with the FIA to clamp down that loophole. Some teams agreed, some teams didn't. That wasn't an FIA issue.
