Hi guys,

I would like to know, how many people watched F1 in 1990-2012 period, possibly year by year. Was there a straight increase, or in some years decrease? Unfortunately I did not found official datas, and there were some different datas for one year.

I would be really grateful for your help, thank you in advance!! :)

I don't think something like this is available. Since I was quite interested myself I started searching but haven't found anything useful.

Thank you for your reply Mika Kimi!
I tried too, but no result :( I don't know, there might be a reason, why they don't present these datas to us? Hmm...

I presume a downward trend in the period 01-04.

It might sound hard but in a way is obvious. After Senna died more people watched. More of the coverage became live on the BBC and not just highlights were broadcast.

I am writing my diploma degree, and I would like to mention that although a lot of source claming it is increasing, it isn't. At least it is fluctuating, but not increasing.

I found the following data:
2003: 354
2005 680
2007 597
2008: 600
2009. 520
2010: 527
million people watched F1 races worldwide. But these numbers do not count that the number of races also increased. And these are not official data, only magazines, websites mention them.

Take those numbers divided with the number of races then. Easy maths.

HSHman thank you very much!!

Anyway, is that truth, that F1 is the most watched sport in the world? How about European football championships, like the English Premiere League? I read somewhere that it is watched by a lot more people, than F1. It is a good comparison, because it has rounds every week, not just like tha Olympic games, wich as far as I know IS the best watched sport event. But NFL, golf, cricket and so on? Isnt that just marketing talking by Diageo?

Thanks once more for the data, 515 looks okay! ;)

Have you tried e-mailing the FOM or the FIA?

If it's a professional demand (degree/thesis is close enough) then you might get some directions.

I just can say WOW! BIG thanks!! :) The numbers are hard to see, but the main thing is the diagram! So, from 93-03 the audience is increased, but from 2003, it is fluctuating. What could be the reason behind this? Okay, Schumi from a point of view, but take a look at 2005 to 2007, it is still lowered.
