Maybe they are designed to look good under the lights.

They would only look good in the dark.

Well of course but is it really that necessary? Never a race goes by without a driver adding, removing or changing something on their helmet. And most of the time these changes are quite garish.

I don't mind a driver occasionally tweaking it, but when you get someone who changes all the time it gets irritating. Or when they all change for Monaco, it becomes a bit boring.

Webber's one is cool though

For Monaco and Singapore it's understandable, they're the big glamour races, but i also don't see the point in adding new things to it every race.

In Belgium Vettel even had 2 helmets. He wore a different one on Friday.

If it's going to rain it will be just before the race, good ol late afternoon storms.

I thought so too, that thunderstorms build gradually throughout the day, then unleash themselves in late afternoon / evening, and that the rest of the night should be clear... until I flew over Chad around midnight a couple of weeks ago and the whole plane started shaking like mad.

Was it in an airliner at cruising altitude? Because that would be just turbulence and unrelated to thunderstorms.

Chad and Singapore have vastly different climates. Late afternoon thunderstorms are common in Malaysia and Singapore all year long. Chad is probably a bit more sporadic and much much drier overall.

I remember we also had a bit of sprinkling hours before practice in 2010 (?). It took the entire session to show signs of it drying up.

is it still raining, or are we back to dry again?

also, a link to that Russian F1 live timing would be sweet.

I cannot confirm this since I haven't seen any action yet, but this would indeed be sweet:

what used to be kerbs on the outside of some corners (T3, T14) before they came loose last year have been ditched and they now go to the walls

just noticed the real building is in fact under renovations behind it. Reminds me of Russia, where historic buildings need to be covered up with a drawing of how they really look like, when they are renovated :D.
