Well, Indianapolis did look something like that during the WWII, so it's still salvageable, I guess.

Still though, a moody rock song is required for this situation:

Indy Cars at Pocono Could Rival Indy 500

“With the (NASCAR) Cup cars on the new pavement we saw 208-209(mph) down the end of the front straightaway so we saw those big numbers. Where it’s going to be sustained is your average speed is going to be 212-215 in that range, that’s unbelievable. You’re talking about going down into (turn) one and doing a light lift at 230 mph. That’s pretty fast. You don’t have a speedometer but that tunnel vision starts to hit. They’ll be drafting and doing at least two or three lead changes just down the front straight,” said Igdalsky.

Wait...what?

I don't know from where "Grande Premio website" took this info (I've searched the version of it in english and couldn't find) but here's an interesting news about what Paul Tracy has been saying publicly about IndyCar. The canadian makes an important analysis on why IndyCar is failing to attract new fans. He suggests that the two-race format is not attractive at all in terms of tv rating, that the DW chassis should look more attractive among other interesting observations.

We need more drivers doing that, it's not that people are trying to harm the series image, to defame or complain, it's just to make IndyCar a better series...like, why can't IndyCar learn with NASCAR who always listen to their fans? Paul Tracy is right, that's why he's a great figure.

I like IndyCar because I'm a hardcore fan for more than a decade and the looks of the new car hasn't been a problem, I'm even used to it, but If you wanna new casual fans consuming IndyCar, you have to make a better looking car and a better spectacle.

The first thing Indycar should do is hire Tracy as a co-commentator or analyst since he is done with his driving career.
I doubt they'd ever let him have a role within the series and I doubt he ever wants to be in a team management role, so broadcasting would be the perfect format for him to air his outspoken views, DW style.

If you thought Tommy Kendall was outspoken, you haven't seen anything yet.

And PT's broadcasting career lasts 15 seconds.

And the NBC Sports Network may or may not be inclined to draw up a slide much like this one...

g-LOC

I think they're jeeing it up a bit, can't see them doing just a lift for turn 1, Tunnel Turn yes (as that's almost identical to the corners at Indy) but not turn 1 or 3 which have a much higher turn radius.

Yeah. But I think even he got over it since he HAS raced quite a few post "merger" Indycar races.
PT may have milked his Champcar loyalty to appease the CC fans at the time (better to be a big fish in a small pond, from his perspective. All he had to contend with then was the Newman-Haas car with Traction Control rather than all his old rivals with higher budgets in the IRL. Yes the old IRL ,sorry I used those acronyms :p ) but when the series was merged he knew where his bread was buttered.
OK he was largely too old for either series by then, but he gave it a try.

I doubt he'd be massively anti-everything as people think. Maybe a few wry digs here and there, but hell that's the mark of a good co-commentator to question the powers that be of the sport. Brundle does it for Sky all the time, Harvey does it for BTCC and exactly how many ACO decisions has Hindy agreed with? :p

*Edit* Though I am putting a lot of thought into something that's never going to happen in a million years, so I might just leave it there ;)
