Well good news but we don't know anything about the deal. It really needs to be something special when you consider what Continental was proposing.

I miss the days of the Goodyear/Firestone tire war. The climax was somewhere in 1997. It seemed like after 1997 Goodyear stopped trying as hard and their performance really dropped off in 1998 and 1999 but then again only a handful were equipped with Goodyear tires and also with not the best teams, the top two being Newman-Haas and Walker (NH switched to Firestone for 1999). Penske was a backmarker back then. :D

I personally hate tyre wars, sucks when a top team and driver are no where because of sometime out of their control

Randy did IndyCar a huge favour with this deal.

Lets just hope that when there's a sudden huge interest in Indycars, it's not a complete mess

IndyCar brass claims the credit belongs to the Indy office rather then the LA office Randy setup that they closed after he was ousted.

Probably just signed them to placate the drivers/teams in the wake of the backlash from the firings.

Honestly, nothing has ever really changed since the split in '96. IMS has always wanted and sought to degrade any series so the 500 would garner more attention and therefore be more important than any Championship could be. It's a game to them. They know they need a series so that there's an Indy 500, but they want to keep the series just impotent enough so that the 500 is the biggest deal.

Which is a completely illogical notion to base your business around.

When the series was at its strongest (80's, 90s CART) so was the 500

These days with a limp series the 500 is suffering massively and is almost treated as a warm up race for the big NASCAR race on the same day, hence them continually trying to throw a bone to NASCAR drivers to do the double.

Yet NASCAR is the number 1 series in America these days and still it doesn't rate winning the Daytona 500 as greater than a series championship.
It makes a HUGE deal about it in February, an entire week of practice, qualifying and racing.
Then once it's over its time to focus on the championship, as it should be.

All the thinking in 16th and Georgetown is backwards, always has been, always will be.
It's just stubborn, old man logic, ignoring the rest of the world and staying stuck in their ways sure the rest of the world will change to meet their old fashioned views instead of trying to keep up with the modern world.

Sad.

Random question, Does anyone happen to have the 2003 Champcar race from Road America in decent quality?

I've got the rip from the old CC race control service but the quality is really bad.

If I recall correctly since it was a late addition to the schedule it wasn't broadcast on SPEED or CBS & was instead broadcast on HDnet (1st international Motorsport event to be broadcast live in HD I believe). Seems because of that its hard to find as I guess not many had HD back then.

I remember that weird situation. I have never seen that race, unfortunately.

Was the race start delayed for hours due to rain, or was that another Road America race?

Was delayed for about an hour due to rain.

They went out to run some pace laps, started the race, Several cars crashed at turn 5 so they brought out the red flag & waited for the weather to improve.

Eurosport had started live coverage (A rarity for that year) but quickly decided the race wasn't going to take place so abandoned the coverage claiming the race had been cancelled.

In favor of snooker I'm sure.
