Pocono would happen between the two Cup dates. That's what I read a few days ago.

Wait, seriously? Three races at Pocono within 6 or 8 weeks? That's suicide. :(

Yeah, that's what I thought. It wouldn't help attracting the NASCAR fans that go to the races. I don't know about the weather in that place that would make it difficult to be held at any other date.

The weather here is fine through the end of September without question, after that it starts cooling down a bit and raining more often. Nazareth has run in April and been okay (although snowed out once). I don't see any reason they couldn't run it before or after Baltimore given how close the two are.

Speedway, definitely. Pocono and Indy share a lot of common traits aside from the 2.5-length. Long straights, sweeping corners, and (now) very smooth surface. I suppose turn three could present a challenge since it's quite flat and tighter than the other two (and the Indy turns), but it's still a pretty 'gentle' corner overall. Other than that I see no reason to even have to consider running the short oval package.

IndyCar made it clear they were not going to allow AJ to race in IndyCar until he successfully completed Nascar Road to Recovery program.

Seriously? where did they say that?

I wonder if Lotus is sticking around considering the year they've had.

Jenna Fryer tweeted this back in July, "#INDYCAR would honor AJ's current status with #NASCAR "if/when participant has completed all such requirements, he/she MAY be allowed."

IndyCar and Nascar use the same drug testing lab and AJ was also in violation of breaking IndyCar drug policy. Hence why they also upheld Nascar suspension.

Just so slowly no one paid any notice.

The 34K is a good figure: Especially as IndyCar wasn't give out free tickets the entire season to the race. We've seen what Andretti can do to a race at a venue he loves, let's hope Roger continues to do the same.

And Deffo Superspeedway at Pocono. I know it's not comparable with the new car, but the wing packages seemed to make a HUGE Difference on iRacing when I had a play around test between a Super Speedway and Hi Drag Speedway Setup. Hi Drag, she's easy flat all the way round. Super Speedway, Lift into 1, and a Lift (Almost Brake) into 3 me thinks. (I test Pocono more than any other track, so would just throw it out there!)

It would be nice to open the season with a 500 mile race. Start , finish and the Indy 500 in the middle of the season.

Don't know how the weather is in Pocono in march though.

I don't recall a press release from Lotus stating anything about an official exit.

Bah, I wish Indycar had 36 races and that it was NASCAR that only have 15. Is it 2013 yet?

Yeah, it's only been reported as strong rumour so far: http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/ ... d-of-2012/

Maybe they think if they don't actually say it they won't have to admit what a massive fail the whole exercise was?

They still have to negotiate an exit with IndyCar.

The thing about Lotus is that if they are willing to return next year, they have the chance now at the end of the year to introduce more changes to the engine to get closer to the rivals, but, they wouldn't have any teams to run them. HVM is set for an engine switch, probably by merging with another 1 car team. Some say it may be KV, with Barrichello set to leave and Viso's will to make his own team.

Fan Force could be that team, but what are the chances for them to be competitive? Not many if IndyCar doesn't help them with turbo boost or something like that. Still, Simona showed some improvement in some street courses after they introduced the improvements mid-season, but unrealiability really killed them.

And I don't even think we would need field-fillers at Indy next year to justify a few extra cars on Lotus power.

Judd should look for an other manufacturer that could actually help them with developing engines and could actually provide them with the right funding. The only reason Lotus was in Indycar was because of Danny Bahar's ego.

Has Judd ever made a proper engine? So far I know they're only used because they are cheap, not good.

Judd made the best NA engine at the end of the turbo era in F1.

They also made the engines that took Aiello to the 1999 BTCC title.

By all accounts, Lotus have paid Judd a fraction of what they promised and so very little work has been done on the engine. If a new manufacturer came in and picked up the tab, it wouldn't be hard for them to catch up.
