not that I want to extract old cows from the ditch, but I was watching the review of the 2010 Belgian GP yesterday. The incident of Vettel crashing into Button was, I seem to recall, completely deemed to be Vettel's fault. But I thought there was some last-gasp movement of Jenson forcing Vettel to steer away and lose it over a damp patch. Maybe not really Vettel's fault afteral?

On August 29 2010, I said:
Quote:
I haven't seen the incident since the race, so I might be wrong here, but at the time I certainly felt some sympathy for Vettel. He got such a run on Button, and clearly wanted to go up the inside. Button I thought made a move towards the inside quite late, just before they hit the brakes, so Vettel had to suddenly jink the outside to avoid a big accident, and lost control. That's how I saw it anyway.

But actually when you look back at the replay from Button's rear facing camera, he didn't deviate from his line, he stayed tight against the inside white line. Vettel probably hoped a gap up the inside was going to materialise, but it didn't. And by the time he realised, he had to jink quite suddenly because they were on the brakes.

maybe one gets the illusion Button turns back because the track curves gently to the right and he went straight.

Seriously, are we really gonna start talking about an accident that happened 2 years ago?

You're quite right. Boozing and whoring is much more important than mere Formula One. (At least for some of us.)

Yes, but not this year. I have no problem reviving cool moments, but I don't want to read full detail discussions about stuff that happened in 2010 in the 2012 discussion.

I don't want to DRAG old cows OUT OF the ditch but Spa 1998, obviously DC's fault.

DC managed to take out 13 cars in one day, 15 if you include the fact he took himself out twice. Must be a record.

Back in the day McLaren and DC said that he got a push from behind. They weren't sure by whom, because of spray blocked the view, but they were quite sure it was Irvine who hit DC's rear right corner, causing him to spin in to the wall.

I thought he lost it over the rain drainage?

Nope, there's digital F1 footage of the start where you can clearly see that he simply lost it on his own.

lol. I read DCs autobiography just recently and everything in there seems to be honest and from the heart... He truly suggests he went off the throttle to let Michael pass, so I give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. He also says that, in hindsight, it might have been better if he pulled off the racing line to let the German by.

FACT - DC slowed up too much to allow Schumi through, Schumi was blinded in the spray couldn't anticipate DC's actions
FACT - Button held the inside line and Vettel tried a move too late in the braking zone thus loosing control

Nope, not opinions. Facts.

An opinion would be... DC did it on purpose. Whereas the fact is what I wrote above, which is what actually happened.
