I know this comment may get buried since it's right in the middle of a race, but during Cup happy hour last night Chris Neville was talking about the pressure release valve the Cup cars are running this weekend. He said he talked to some teams and they were only able to tandem for about half a lap before the valve release and that if they continued running for a full lap they would push a ton of water out. So thankfully, tomorrow's Cup race should most likely still be the pack racing we've had at the plate races so far this season.

This was a good point that I don't think got any attention during last night's race.

The problem in that case is that the car in front is so much stronger that no-one can get around.

I didn't watch the end of the Daytona 500, but looking at the comments here a lot of people were pissed at Biffle for not attacking Kenseth; he says that he physically couldn't get to him.

Watching the NNS race at the moment. Good race so far. Why can't Cup be like this?

True, but being able to pass the leader easily is sort of an effect we've gotten used to and come to expect with plate racing in the COT. So perhaps, this new 'difficulty' should actually be seen as a reward for the driver who manages to get himself in front in the closing laps. Being the leader coming to the white flag is no longer a sitting duck/sucker's bet, as proven both by Kenseth and Keselowski this season.

The chasing drivers will now have to be much more clever and forward thinking to win instead of just swinging around the front car effortlessly coming to the checkers (i.e. the Harvick/McMurray and Bowyer/Burton finishes).

Sounds like Baby Otis is about to enter the world.

Austin Dillon on Standby for RCR Teammate Kevin Harvick at Daytona International Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 7, 2012) - NASCAR Nationwide Series regular Austin Dillon has returned to Daytona Beach, Fla., where he will remain on standby to drive the No. 29 Budweiser Folds of Honor Chevrolet in tonight's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coke Zero 400 powered by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway should Richard Childress Racing teammate Kevin Harvick need to return home for the birth of the couple's first child. Harvick's wife DeLana has returned to North Carolina where she is resting comfortably.

Hearing 2 things.

Kenny Wallace will be on standby for Harvick. NASCAR did not approve Austin Dillon.

Allmendinger is out, and Hornish is in the 22. Not sure if AJ is just starting and handing over or is out of the ride or what. (This is just breaking now)

Allmendinger apparently has a stomach virus, and is apparently not in the car at all tonight.

Apparently Allmendinger has failed a drug test.

Oh dear AJ :(

The guy seems so on the level usually, wouldn't have expected this from him

Expect to hear the usual excuses, but it's a shame someone with a promising career like that wants to piss it all away....

This has to be pot.

At least, I hope it is, and not meth like it was with Jeremy Mayfield. That was such a disappointment...

Hornish is in Charlotte and is waiting on a plane to Daytona.

Find a plan B, Captain.

You know, I honestly don't see what's so bad about pot, if it is pot (and it likely is). There's plenty of worse things out there. It's illegal, yes, but it probably shouldn't be.

Alcohol does more damage, kills more people and pot is no worse than tobacco. Think about the tax they could make off it.

Well it's not like the government suspended him, NASCAR did.

I know that. I'm just saying that I don't see what's wrong with it.
